First off I want to thank everyone who has contributed to this site. It is been a fantastic resource for me, as I began my diamond search with no knowledge of what to look for, and felt overwhelmed to begin with. With the knowledge gained in the forums I have been able to better refine what I am looking for, what is important, and what I should steer clear of.

The diamond that I am looking for advice on is a James Allen True Hearts 1.11 carat I VVS2 round. The idealscope, link, and details are below. I would be looking to set this in a simple solitaire setting, such as the six-prong tiffany style ring.

I would greatly appreciate advice and opinions on the stone. Does anything of concern show up on the scope?

It looks beautiful! I guess my only concern is how much you are paying for VVS2 clarity as opposed to VS1 or VS2. VVS is kind of overkill to go with I color, but maybe it is the only ideal cut in your budget range?

I certainly agree that VVS is going overboard. I found the price to be competitive with VS1's and even some VS2's. In most searches I was not even checking VVS. That gave me a little concern as to what I might be missing.

diamondseeker2006 - You seem to be a magician here, popping up in every thread :) can you expand on what you are saying with the VVS2 over VS1 or VS2 given I color comment - is it along the lines of keeping the various aspects of a diamond somewhat aligned in terms of their qualities?

No, it is very nice, and especially if the price is comparable to some VS stones! I like that it is GIA I color because they are a little more strict on color than AGS.

Hi, Morgin! Diamonds are my hobby, what can I say? What I meant was that someone who really demands a high color/clarity diamond might choose D-F VVS. They will pay a lot for the high color and clarity. When you go down to I-J color, I think VS-SI1 is more in line with the color since people normally go to I color for the price range. Now I am ONLY talking about round brilliants because they are very plentiful and you can get almost any combination. In round brilliants, I usually buy G-H VS1-VS2 for myself and that falls in the middle of the other two examples. There is not a thing in the world wrong with buying I or J VVS IF that is the best stone available or perhaps the only selection in a specialty cut. I strongly considered an I color VVS AVR myself, but I was willing to pay for the high clarity due to the rarity of the stones. In this case, he happened to find an I VVS that was similar in price to VS clarity stones, so it sounds like a good buy! Also, there are people who look for D-F color and look for SI clarity to lower the price of the stone, so really, anything goes!

Thank you so much for your replies. The input and assistance that is gained on this site is outstanding. A major investment like this is discomforting without the right education and support, and this site has been fantastic for that. :P

Almost all the long time members came here exactly like you did! We knew little when we came and learned a lot over the years! The forum certainly helped me pick some great stones and I am happy to be of help to others, especially since I certainly can't buy new diamonds for myself all the time!

Please come back with pictures of your finished ring! We have a Show Me the Bling part of the forum that you can post in, if you'd like!

I most certainly will return to post pictures of the end result.

Your enthusiasm about diamonds shows in the support that you provide to all of us newbies. I have been fascinated by the intricacies of the hobby / profession as I have been gaining an understanding of it. I hear you about not being able to buy all of the diamonds that you would like to! However, gaining a further understanding has increased my appreciation of diamonds and their qualities, and I will forever be a better consumer for it. Many thanks!

I am somewhat curious as to GIA being more strict than AGS on color grading. Is there additional resources where I can research this?
