Is this stone worth the price?

Dear Friends,
I am contemplating buying this stone but am unsure if its a good buy.
I had specificed for a custom cut diamon several months ago. After many months, its finally out and the specs are as follows

Graded by GIA
Size 1.88 carat thin to medium thickness
Colour D
Clarity VS1
Polish excellent
Symmetry excellent
Cut grade excellent
Table 59
Crown angle 33.5
Crown height 14
Pavilion Depth 43.5
Pavilion angle 41
Fluorescence medium blue

The thing that bugs me is the fluorescence. It''s a perfectly cut stone but does the fluorescence bring its value down?

Hi there. Can you post the total depth and the price if you want us to comment on that too

Who graded the stone? The table is a bit larger than we would recommend around here, but with the total depth value, we can run it through the HCA and get an idea.

We also need the diameter measurements as well as the depth %, if you don't have the depth%, then we can work it out with the diameter. The table is a bit larger than we normally see, have you seen this diamond and love it? In some cases a D with fluorescence can influence the price a bit, it depends on whether you don't mind the fluoro and would be happy for a discount, or would rather have a D without.

With only med. blue fluorescence, this probably would not alter the price much, if any, in a well cut of that size, and if there is a discount it is most likely in the final price.

For stones with intense blue fluor and colors other than blue a discount can be in order, but again it may be worked into the final price.

Regarding that diamond, its GIA graded excellent
The depth % is 60
The diameters of the stone are 8mm x 8.06mm
It has only 1 feather at the edge of the stone
Priced at about 45 thousand australian dollars.
Only issue is medium blue fluorescent
Any opinion is valued

The table is a bit larger than I would normall like, but I ran it through the HCA and got 1.4, Ex, Ex, Vg, Ex. It also falls in the AGS Ideal range so should be a nice stone.

Can you get an IS image to confirm?

I am another Aussie, there are lots of us around here who have purchased from overseas and had it shipped, much cheaper and better upgrade policies etc. Have you thought of that option?

Price seems a bit high, try this link to compare. I am not suggesting you purchase this one, but it will give you an idea of what you could be looking at online. Remember to add 10% FST, which comes in around $37K, which is a big difference. If you are not up to purchasing from the US (Whiteflash or Good old gold), I would say this vendor would be my first choice in Australia, I would definately not purchase from a B&M store.

You really don't need to purchase a D colour if you want to save some dollars (though as an owner of a D ering, I totally understand your desire for the D), you can always drop to E or even F and won't be able to see the difference when set. I would also recommend dropping to at least VS2 clarity, this will save lots too and you won't be able to see the difference with the naked eye. Even some SI1 are eye clean too and will save you more dollars.

If it were my dollars, I would go for this one! Still VERY white (colourless range), VS2 for savings, and nearly that 2ct mark! ACAs are Ideal cut H&A stones (superideals). I have one (a tad smaller than this beauty

), and it is mind blowing! Your fiance would just about faint if you presented her with this little gem! Maybe get it set in a Leon and

- you become the fiance of the year!!!!

Stone is around $28K AUS, could set it in a simple solitaire from WF for around 1200AU, when you import it you will need to pay 15% taxes, so by my crappy maths you are looking at $34K for a 2ct superideal ACA!!! And you can use the 11K you save getting her a gorgeous set of diamond studs, a pendant, tennis bracelet, toe rings................ the list goes on!

After much consideration, I''ve decided to get the stone despite the fluorescence.
All the other stones in my country of similar specs cost 10k or more than this one
The GIA grading and HCA are excellent for me.
