I am getting closer and closer to getting a e-ring. I think I''ve decided on what I want in a diamond and am now starting to shop for settings. My future fiance and I went ring shopping and she likes the channel set-style and I do too. I''ve found this one...

here are pics if they link correctly.

Basically--this is exactly what I want--but I am worried, however, that it will break or be flimsy. Is this a valid concern? Do settings get appraised?

Thanks.

Yes, settings can be appraised.

Six prongs, plat head would be closer to "bulletproof"

It''s a lovely setting. no setting is bulletproof but if you go with one that is well made you should be in good standing. I''d probably do some price comparisions b/c settings can be different qualities. and yes, you can have appraisals done on the setting.

That is a mighty high head there. Personally like them lower - and they''re less prone to catch on things or get bent - if we''re talkin'' bulletproof here. Yes, you can have it appraised! And if you can''t afford to replace the ring/diamond...get it insured afterwards!

six prong, PLATINUM head

i have destroyed 3 white gold heads in 11 years

a die struck setting (where the entire ring is one solid piece) would be more ''bulletproof''. one good whack in the right place on a peg head and it could break off.

I agree, it''s very high. I like them lower as well. Much safer for the ring and the diamond. Also won''t catch on things as much if it''s lower. This setting is pretty standard, you can find one''s that are not as high.

No my 44mag would blow it into a million pieces.
As others have said the head is way too high.
