I am really close to pulling the trigger on this one but then I started reading about low HCA scores and how they can be poor performers. Should I be getting cold feet over this??

light performance = 0 = you''re fine

it will be a great diamond!

Ditto! No worries!

I wouldn''t call a low HCA score of 0.4 a low performer. It is still a beautiful stone. Only those with the most discerning and expert eyes can tell the difference between a stone that scores under 1 and a stone that scores closer to 2. Plus being a AGS0 helps. You''ve picked a beauty.

So there is no need to be worried about the angles? The AGS grade of 0 in light performance supercedes the shallow/shallow combination?

I appreciate the replies above but can I get someone to comment on my last question specifically referring to the angles of this diamond. Thanks!

No, it''s cut beautifully!

Ditto - it is going to be stunning!

Whats the lgf% its on the lower part of the diamond diagram on the report.
If its 77 or over you should be ok.
It is a hair on the shallow side at 40.5, not my favorite combo but not always a train wreck either.
Do you have a full sarin report that lists all the angles?

It''s probably fine. As long as you''re buying from a vendor with a return policy, get it and if you don''t love it, return it!

But it''s probably fine.

My money is on this diamond as a real winning option, especially as it is an AGS0, I honestly don''t think you have a thing to worry about. Just look forward to getting it and post some pics when you can.

You are going way too far into detail, especially with your fear on the ''low'' HCA. In a sense, you are over-emphasizing the importance of HCA, and I personally do not agree with that scary story about very low HCA''s. I understand where it stems from, but I do disagree.

At this point in time, you should forget about the HCA (you have made a nice selection based on that), and go to other tools to confirm your selection. Such tools are the idealscope, H&A, ASET-scope and finally your own eyes.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the response. The lfg%, assuming I''m reading it right, is 74 (btw the top number is 53). What does this mean and should it stop me from buying this diamond? I have to make a decision by Friday and I would really appreciate someone explaining this further.

I personally wholeheartedly disagree with Storm on this. Just looking at average numbers is not sufficient in this area.

Live long,

I''d just like the offer the animated observation that this topic a) has provided lots of heat over the years, and b) that although Storm and Paul are not the same person...neither are they really that far apart from each other. For example...note the lack of fire and brimstone in Paul''s: "Just looking at average numbers is not sufficient in this area."

In particular, I''ve found that, unlike perhaps the majority of us, Storm frequently states that AGS''s standards are not really, in and of themselves, sufficient for him, and likewise, Paul, I think, would prefer to be up against the most stringent authority available, and has suggested that the day they come out with a more stingy authority...he wants to start using them.

Unfortunately, as I recall these discussions over a time, whereas Paul points to tools such as:

As I recall, the way the criticism of sub "1" HCA scores go...reflector devices do not pick up these issues too well.

I don''t purport to have an answer or stand on this, sorry to say, but couldn''t help reflecting on the irony of what seems to be contradictory testimony from two who, at heart, really seem to me more in agreement than not.
