Hi, I found this website because I started looking for a diamond 4 weeks ago and didn''t know much about them. One store started pushing a cushette real hard, so I came to the internet and found "The Diamond Guy". Boy was he helpful. They found flaws w/ every diamond I found. This was ok w/ the bad ones, but I really thought I had found a good one based on the numbers, angles, percents etc.. Well...let me cut and paste here:

They just told you themselves with the AGS report that the crowns and pavilion angles are not universal! That’s probably why they have yet to give you the Sarin report.

This is definitely a class 3 stone. The stone will look great in the store with the fancy lighting. After a few days of wear on xxxxx''s hands, it will look like a tropical depression just moved in. This is how the industry can sell 98% of their junk stones.

If cut correctly, it will be around 0.75-0.80ct. In other words, it’s a chubby stone that has a bit of body fat. If you really don’t mind the warping, then buy it. But don’t pay $5400! This stone is worth around $4990. If they’re not willing to sell you at that price, give me a call. Of course, I hope you understand the disadvantages of a class 3! end quote!!

Question: Is this stone really that bad?

GIA 3/14/07 Round Brilliant
0.91 carat wt.
6.22 - 6.29 x 3.81 mm
color H, clarity VS2
depth 60.9%
table 57%
crown 34 deg., 14.5 %
pavillion 40.8 deg., 43.0%
girdle thin to medium
crown? = 50%? pavillion? = 80? (don''t know what these two #s mean. it''s on the chart tho).
cut grade excellent
polish excellent
culet none
symmetry very good
fluorescence faint

AGS 000 (on cut I assume)
0.91 carat wt.
6.22 - 6.29 x 3.82 DV 1.2% 0
depth 61%
table 3.50mm 55.9% 0
crown 34.5 deg., (34.2 - 34.7) 14.5% 0
pavillion 41.0 deg. (40.4 - 41.5) 43.4% 0
culet 0.3% none
girdle 1.3 medium - 1.9 medium 1.6% 0

Is the 1.1 spread on the pavillion angles a problem for light return?
Do I need a sarin report on this diamond?
Can / should this be a problem for the diamond store? They are local and very reputable.
The diamond guy says it is a class III and will lose 80% value leaving the store.
Will this diamond lose it''s sparkle and pop within months of ownership? It really pops right now.

Visually, it is gorgeous. The best I''ve seen so far. The setting is similar to one I''ve seen on this site from good old gold. http://com.pricescope.com/photos/rhino/images/2249/original.aspx

Thanks also for confirming what I thought about DCI. Its all about getting you to swing your money over to them; no doubt.

Thank you guys so much for your help.

if the crown angle had the same variation then that would have been better because that almost always means there is 1.1 degree / 2 = 0.55 degree table tilt. So an ideal-scope image will show any negative effects.

There is a good chance the stone will be OK because it is in that slightly shallower zone

Could you please explain a little more. What do I need to do to find out if it is a good stone?

By good stone I mean, that it has good light return and will continue to be a good stone for years and years providing it is not abused. Is there some means I can use to ascertain if this is such a stone, or do I need to keep looking for an excellent shy carat in the 5 -5.5k range.

thank you.

I can''t imagine there would be too many worries about an AGS000. And the other one looks good, too. I think I''d avoid The Diamond Guy. He must have some kind of agenda.

Uh, oh, not warping. Do a pricescope search on warping (and that vendor) and you''ll see that it''s a lot of nonsense.

Also here''s a link that discusses "warping"
