hello guys,

I did not mean the lower the HCA, the better the cutting. Said so just to attract you guys to come in :naughty:

Here I've got a very good candidate:

D, VS2, 1.18carat, HCA 0.7, $12199
actual dimensions : 6.79-6.85x4.19mm
Proportions
Depth: 61.5%
Table: 54%
Crown Angle: 34°
Crown Height: 15.5%
Pavilion Angle: 40.6°
Pavilion Depth: 43.0%
Star Length: 50%
Lower Half: 75%
Girdle: Thin to Medium, Faceted (3.0%)
Culet: None

Is this one worth considering? It is from Bluenile, no IS image. All those numders look so attractive. If you guys think it is worth buying, I would like to purchase it first. If there is indeed anything wrong, I still have an option to return it. Thanks in advance. Any opinion would be appreciated.

waiting.......

Looks good. D color would be overkill for many on here, but if it's what you want, go for it. That thing is going to be super duper white. (I personally prefer around G/H/I visually, D/E/F is just TOO white for me, idk why. It just wigs me out to look at diamonds so white. But many people prefer the way they look! So it's a personal preference.)

With that icy white combo, it's going to stop traffic.

Having said that, unless you are dead set on getting a D, id encourage you to look for a F/G so as o save $ or go bigger.

I agree with the others, in terms of value for money, D is wayyy too high of a color for me. I prefer my stones around H-I (and in antique cuts, even lower). The icy white of D/E gives me chills. However, there are definitely people who prefer that level of 'perfection,' so if you're one of them, the stone looks lovely. If you're not dead set on getting something that blindingly WHITE, perhaps give it a pass and look for something bigger/cheaper at a lower color grade.

This appears to look good on paper. I'm one of those who finds the look of *icy* white diamonds quite captivating. I love the crispness of the color & it stands out because there are so few D-colored stones out there. I didn't see the measure of Fluorescence for this stone though - did I miss that? With a D color stone, we're often told to be cautious about the amount of fluorescence present. Do you have that info to help with your decision?

Ditto this, I think it will be a stunning stone!

Thanks for all of you guys! And I have to say I am really the same kind of person as Roxy to be the big fan of "icy" white. According to the GIA report, thiere is no Fluorescence. I don't like Fluorescence either.

Do you guys have anything to say about the price? Is it reasonable to pay 12k for a 1.18carat D VS2 stone? Does HCA 0.7 make much sense for this price? Sorry, there are too many questions for I am still in great excitement to find a such wonderful color stone.

I think it's a fantastic stone! I also have an F color stone and I love how white it is. Going down in color makes me a bit nervous, but if you're like me, D color is great! As far as the price, I think it's priced really well. Here's a comparable:

*And - anything that high on the HCA scale is a really really rare thing, so again, I think the price is justified and actually a great deal!

04diamond<3, your reply is so sweet! Thanks a lot. I DO love the color of D, and the price is not too bad for me.

I couldn't do that combo of 40.6 and 75% lgf.

I'm laughing at Julie's response because I'm the opposite - IF it's actually a 40.6/34 w decent optical symmetry, I'd love it w/ shorter lgf.

Trouble is, we can't tell just from the numbers on the report because GIA averages around the eight sections of stone and rounds, and doesn't consider optical symmetry at all. Definitely worth having shipped out to see in-person if you like the specs and the price is right for you!

Hi hawaii,

If I may ask ... when you look at diamonds personally ... how close to your eyes do you bring the diamond normally?

3-6", 12", half an arms length, full arms length? I ask because this particular angle combo WITH that lower half length can behave differently depending on your normal viewing distance. Curious.

Kind regards,
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

You are really an expert! I never considered the effect of distance on the visual performance. I think my normal viewing distance is half an arms. Would you please tell me how would this angle combo behave on half arm length and full arms length? Is this half length unusually low? Does it make the visual performance unstable in great way? I begin to worry about it.
