scope, and hopefully someone could help me out with my question.

My Wife has a round brilliant diamond in her engagement ring. The diamond is .97ct with a "very good" cut , I color and SI1 clarity. The diamond appears to be eye clean. The GIA report indicated that there is one cloud and one crystal located on the table, but not in the center of the diamond. The diamond looks perfect looking at it straight on. However, when I tilt the diamond down towards the ground, a dark area appears. The dark area disappears when I tilt the diamond back up. If I rotate the diamond to a new position and tilt it towards the ground, the same dark area appears. The area once again disappears once it is tilted back up. Is this normal or could this be a flaw? What could be causing this?

Welcome to PS!

It could be a number of things you are seeing, I take it this isn't a new purchase and that you want to change the diamond, but something you are curious about? Do you have any pics which display this effect you are noticing? To be able to help further we would need the diamond's proportions such as the depth, table, crown and pavillion angles and photos if you have them. Also I take it this is a dark area you are seeing and not an inclusion or mark in the diamond?

If you can not take a photo, draw a sketch and scan it or draw in adobe or some software.

it is likely a simple effect that happens in most stones.

Also try changing the background color - if it is a see thru effect the color will change.
