Hi I am not sure if anyone posted this question before, is it normal when you look down on a RB and it appears to be slightly yellow but the side view is perfectly clear against a white piece of paper (it's set on a platinum setting)?

(i looked at it under natural sunlight and the walls around me is white)

If anything, it would be the other way round...

In some light conditions, it is easy to see the body colour of the near-colourless diamonds, even when viewed from directly above. Colour seems most noticeable when viewing from above if the light source is coming from the side. In fact, that light condition seems easier - to me - than viewing face-down on a white background.
I can easily detect colour in H stones in those conditions, with G being slightly detectable and F being quite difficult to see any tint.
The size of the stone also has an effect. Larger stones are easier to notice the yellow tint in the "near colourless" grades.

Certain shapes and lower cut grades will also show more body colour.

What shape/cut quality and colour do you have?

it's a .4 carat round brilliant, ideal cut, scored 1.3 in the HCA, in either F or G color (definitely not lower than G because as i mentioned before, there is no visible yellow color when i place it in front of a white paper). I have always thought color could only be observed facing down or from the side, and in the GOG color video, when they put the diamonds facing up, even J stones are sparkling white. That's why i am confused about this situation.

also, how can you tell if it's reflection or the actual stone body color? that's what i am not sure of, but i couldn't think of anything that reflected the yellow color when i am surrounded by white walls and under natural sun light

any other thoughts?

I would think there is something yellow or colored in the environment...perhaps your shirt, skin, or hair?

Are you sure the ring is clean? Try cleaning it yourself or having a local jewelry store do it for you and and repeat your experiment.
