I purchased this diamond off whiteflash a couple of weeks ago and was wondering if the following is normal. Looking at the diamond from the bottom (hearts), I see a line going around the diamond circumference . You can sort of see it in the picture attached that was provided on the whiteflash website. You can see it as small dots going around the diamond close to the bottom tips of the hearts. Does anyone know if this is normal as I can see it quite clearly through the scope provided by them bot only from the bottom and not the top.

Probably an inclusion reflected through multiple facets.

Just for clarification, i have drawn in the line that i see (Please excuse the unsteady hand and paintbrush skills)

If I am understanding you correctly, do you mean a line which goes all around the bottom third of the diamond seen from the side? If so then this is the girdle reflection. Otherwise it could be an inclusion reflecting, if you are concerned check with WF as they will be able to set your mind at rest.

Is this what you are seeing, the line running around the lower part of the diamond as seen in this pic?

It is somewhat in the same spot but i can see it when i look directrly at the diamond from the bottom.

If you look at the diamond from the bottom then the girdle reflection can be seen in around the area you mention, if you look at the side does what you are seeing from the bottom look as if it matches what you can see from the side?

The clarity is VS2 if I recall correctly so it is more likely to be that than an inclusion I would think.

If you have heart pictures, I''m assuming it''s an ACA? If so, whatever you''re seeing is not something "bad", because that''s a very well cut stone. Most of us don''t get to view our diamonds unset, so not much help there. But I wouldn''t worry about it, and besides, the better view is face up!

It is an ACA. I have attached the picture of the hearts. Nothing can really be seen from the top, just the bottom.
Lorelei, I will have to check again to see if i can notice the line from the side when i get home from work as i don''t recall if i could see it from the side or not. I will update you tommorrow. Also, yes, it''s a VS2 stone.

Actually, there seems to be a tiny speck in the tip of the arrow pointing at 5 o'clock. It could be an inclusion (not visible with the naked eye and possibly difficult to locate from the top with a loupe) that is reflected across the pavillion.

I checked the diamond again. I am able to see the line when looking at the diamond from the side. As, mentioned above, does this mean that it is the reflection of the girdle?

Also, does that mean that this is not a well cut diamond or is it normal to see this. Its almost exactly like the Lorelei''s picture.

all the way round? then it should be girdle reflection. It is normal, all round brilliant diamonds have it. Not sure of other cuts.

If the horizontal line that you see from the side is what you''re talking about, all round brilliants do it. Your ACA is extremely well cut!

Thanks for the replies everyone. That was quite the scare for me when I initially seen the reflection.

Seems like this is getting common. :P

If yours is not a well cut diamond, I don''t know what is. So relax...

This is completely normal, all diamonds do this! So thats what it was then by the sound of it - girdle reflection.
