It just seems mean. . . ::)

I had to stop watching.

It truly blows my mind that people will set their kids up for disappointment and hurt so that they can film it and send it in for the world to see. I find it cruel and the parents lacking. I know it's supposed to be for fun but when I apply it to the way my own kids would have felt, I just don't find it funny. He did this at Halloween as well where parents told their kids they ate all of their Halloween candy while they were sleeping. Young kids don't always have good emotional control and take things at face value. Parents are supposed to be people that you trust - not people that use you for a good laugh.

Sorry for the sermon - I just find it tasteless!

bahahahah ohhh I'm a sucky ole mean mom but I thought some of their reactions were funny! "What'd you get?" "Uh..an old banana" and she's like ehhh whatever, I'll eat it. I doubt they're scarred for life, tho that one boy who ran around screaming and bawling for receiving a hello kitty tshirt apparently needs counseling and may turn to a life of crime. I didn't have kids to not mess w/them. I am the "give em pickles and watch their face" mom.

I love it! Sure, it's kind of mean when you see some of the kids freak out and cry, but it gave me a good chuckle.

"Did you smell your onion?" Ha!

"I love your cooking when you cook dinner, like Hot Pockets."

"I want a refund!"

Oh my, that last kid needs to have his mouth washed out with soap. :o

Thanks for sharing that Kenny!

When I was a kid my brother farted a lot.
One Christmas my dad gave him a cork with my brother's name on it.

Yeah, he did grow up to be a troubled adult but I think it was all the other stuff that happened.

heck I'm still giggling

ho-ot pockets..

"what'd you get? Ohhh an invisible fence for your dog" hahahahaha

Some of those kids tried to be so polite, bless their hearts!

I thought it was funny but if I did it to my kids I would quickly tell them it was a "joke" and give them real gifts that
they would like. I think they would be pretty good sports about it.

loved it!

hehehehe I liked the Halloween candy one too-those two boys at the end were adorable. If we did that Trapper would fling himself to the ground. London would give me the big Puss N Boots eyes just on the verge of tears but she wouldn't cry. haha it's fun to tease kids.

Hahaha agreed!

Ok I think its funny. Especially since they're getting regular presents later anyway.

The sandwich girl was adorable!

The kid with the Hello Kitty shirt weirded me out. I hope his parents coached him to act like that for the video!

I saw that on Facebook. FUNNY! ::)

I think it is pretty funny, but that last kid needs his mouth washed out with soap. He's definitely on the naughty list.

At first I thought it would be funny. Then, as I watched the faces of the kids, and realized that their parents were essentially making them the butt of a very public joke, which all of their friends can easily see . . . I thought it was beyond bad parenting.

Who would purposely humiliate their child for the sheer enjoyment of entertaining a worldwide audience? An a--hole.

Although the little girl with the peanut butter sandwich got the upper hand pretty quickly with her mommy. Now who's the butt? You are, mommy dearest.

I think it was one present that parents gave to their kids and it was well before Christmas. To me, that doesn't make it quite as bad. I don't know if that makes sense.

Clearly, parents don't mind putting their kids' pictures/video online, but that was the one thing that from an internet safety standpoint, I probably wouldn't do. Not on YouTube anyway. I do think it was funny though. I haven't seen the Halloween candy one yet. I'll have to check it out tomorrow.

I stopped watching after the onion. I don't know if I just can't take a joke or what. I felt sad for the kids. They were confused. Christmas is usually about getting something you really want and they were just plain baffled by what was in the package.

Kenny, did you find it funny or cruel? I wonder if the people without children find it funny as opposed to the parents. I'm always curious to find out what the thoughts are of the person who posts questions on PS :))

I didn't think it was funny. I've never liked practical jokes.

Kids of that age, don't have the global sense of humour that we adults do. I thought it was cruel from their perspective - the excitement of a gift and its... a stapler? a 1/2 eaten sandwich? beans?? The genuine disappointment tugs at your heart strings

but...

there is still that perverse sense of humour adults seem to enjoy watching a practical joke take place! It's like a train wreck - you know what it's gonna end up like, but you just can't help but watching it happen!

I am torn - I did laugh (ok, I'm weak, I admit it!) ;))

Well put Enerchi.

Maisie, this pretty sums up my feelings - (except seeing myself as being weak for what comes naturally, or calling it perverse.)
I do see it both ways, both cruel AND funny - and one does not conquer or outrank the other.
They coexist.
I should have offered "Both" as a third option.
Unlike many others I do not embrace guilt and shame for what is natural but harmless.

I'm a very natural person in that I reject guilt and shame when I have not done anything wrong.
I would never do that to a kid since it may be hurtful - but I didn't do it.
Someone else did.
I just saw it.
Most
Significantly, when I laughed the kid could not be hurt by my reaction.

They are not the same.

It is funny and I can also see it teaching children a valuable lesson. To be gracious no matter what you receive. As these children grow up they are not always going to get what they want out of life. Can you imagine how the Hello Kitty Tshirt boy would react as an adult? If I had kids, I would have done it. Then, depending on how they reacted we would have had a chat about the situation or joke and then gone out for a favorite treat as a "reward" for being a good sport.

Yep, I totally get your point of view :))

 Teaching children to be "gracious" by giving them a half eaten sandwich as a present? Um, no- they are not going to be "gracious". They're going to be confused by their parents' bizarre, twisted behavior.

I didn't laugh and I think it was mean.

Who laughs at their kids' sadness? So many brides whine on PS because they didn't get the ring of their dreams or expensive enough wedding gifts, and these are children!! I guess it's all for the parents' enjoyment and maybe a chance to get on YouTube or Jimmy Kimmel.

I thought it was freaking hilarious. But, I grew up in a family where that sort of humor (and just humor in general) was encouraged and appreciated. I'm probably ruined and should probably start blaming my horrible family and should probably get into therapy ASAP, huh.

I didn't think it was that funny, and kind of mean.

It was cruel. But I loved it! I think its a brilliant short segment, and despite all the various feelings of confusion/ethics etc; I think it shows that these parents are able to take a good look at their own children. They may have learned a great deal that pleased them.

Some of the kids were absolutely saints. I've love to have a daughter like the one that received the sandwich. Or the banana recipient. Bless their little hearts.

And I would be sad to be a parent of the child who received the hello kitty sweater. Being disappointed and emotional is one thing, blaming parents and venting at them ceaselessly is sad.

Too many kids grow up massively indulged.

I thought it was hilarious. So long as the kids were told in a short space of time that it was all a joke, and real presents were certainly still to come, I can't imagine it damaging the trust they have in their parents. The little girl with the old banana was the cutest thing ever. :halo:
