Is this harmless fun or animal cruelty?

As long as it''s safe and isn''t a hindrance to the animal''s normal functions, I''m cool with it. I''m not so crazy about some of the ones that look like they''d constrict the animal or be uncomfortable, but some of ''em are pretty funny to me.

cruelty

Wow, those of you who are not finding this funny need to get a sense a humor! Really, it''s ok to laugh and smile, it''s free

I think it really depends.
Did you bleach the animal?
Did you hold it still against its will?
Did you use safe dyes?
For example, to paint Maggie, we would have to bleach her and hold her down. Believe me, Maggie would come out of that far less damaged then we would. On the other hand, I could paint a self portrait on the back of my white cat right now and he wouldn''t know the difference nor care.

For anyone who really wants to venture into the bruhaha about it, check these out: http://www.snopes.com/photos/arts/paintedcats.asp

omg I love those - and if its wrong, I guess I''ll live with it!!

I don''t think it''s cruelty exactly, or particularly funny. It seems kind of kooky and bizarre to me. But if the dyes are not harmful to the animals, I don''t have a real objection

Now, is that Raphael or Michaelangelo?

Actually, it''s Leonardo. He was blue, Donatello was purple, Michaelangelo was orange, and Raphael was red.

I used to LOVE TMNT back in the day...

I think one thing has not been mentioned.

Dogs want to please their humans.
They are not PC and into equal rights.
They see the universe through their glasses of pecking order.

When humans don't know this their dogs ascend up the ladder and boss their humans around.
When this happens I blame the humans, who are stuck in their human-centric equality-based reasoning.
Watch a few episodes of Caesar Milan's Dog Whisperer show to see examples.

Our own two dogs don't mind and sometimes even seem to enjoy wearing costumes and getting photographed because they sense it pleases their humans.
Likewise, the dogs in these pics may feel they are doing their job by submitting to their humans' silliness.

This human-pleasing has endeared dogs to us for centuries, and has been reinforced by selective breeding.
Now, cats on the other hand.... strike me as being the opposite....they expect to be pleased by their humans.

Edit...
That reminds me of a joke - unPC, but it makes a point ...
What's the difference between a dog and a wife?
After being locked in the car's trunk for an hour your dog will be glad to see you when you let them out.

(Change wife to husband if you prefer - there's just soooooo much men-bashing these days).

Not all humans understand this, so some dogs try to ascend up the ladder and boss some humans around.

EXCELLENT post, Kenny. I 100% agree.

OMG, that''s hysterical!

Often time animal hair coloring is down with "blowers" meaning...a straw with color in it that a human blows onto the hair. It''s perfectly safe for the animal and really never comes in contact with the skin.

Lighten up all!

I''m not sure it''s something I would do. I do agree that there are far worse ways in which to inflict cruelty upon animals. But I can''t help thinking it says more about the owner than it does about the dog.

I do see that there must be a fair amount of talent involved in transforming your poodle into a ninja turtle, but for the life of me, I can''t think of a single reason why on earth you would want to do it unless it was a talent competition for dog groomers.
