Is this Good Diamond?

I have a $10,000 maximum budget including everything: diamond, setting, tax, shipping, etc.

I really want as close to a 1.5 carat as possible.

I have found this stone but I am a newbie and am not sure about it. Is this a good diamond to purchase:

Also, for a 1.5 carat ring, what are the minimum parameters in respect to cut, clarity, color, etc. for a decent looking diamond?

My fiancee wants a white golld ring. Does that make any difference in respect to selecting the correct color, clarity, etc.?

It looks gorgeous-you just need to check with Good Old Gold and make sure it''s eye clean in real life.

The cut is really the most important aspect of any size diamond. Color and clarity depend on the person, but a well cut H is definitely going to look very white. And as for clarity, as long as the SI2 is eye clean, I think it''s a perfect choice.

What type of setting are you looking for?

An H color will be fine in white gold.
(Just make sure that it's eyeclean)

This diamond should be gorgeous!

1.4 is a fab size b/c it looks just as big as 1.5 but you avoid the premium associated with being right smack dab on the 1.5 ct mark.

Minimum parameters vary greatly between individuals, however, cut should take precedence as this will affect the way the other "c''s" manifest themself.

Have you looked at diamonds in real life to assess your color sensitivity? If not, you may wish to do this so that you can be certain with which color range you are most comfortable. With regards to clarity, unless you have a "mindclean" issue, providing that you are able to confirm that a diamond is "eyeclean" to your satisfaction, meaning no visible inclusions to the unaided eye, you should be okay. Diamonds in the SI range can often be eyeclean. Good Old Gold should be able to confirm for you.

White gold is a popular choice and should not make a difference with regards to the color/clarity choice you''ve selected thus far.

This is a gorgeous diamond and a firey ideal cut to boot!!

It would be an excellent choice, H is a good middleground for colour, and plenty white for most people, just check with GOG that it matches your comfort level for 'eyecleanliness' - make sure you tell them what your comfort level is, and you should be good to go! Also this is a highly sought after size, I would put it on hold while you decide.

Great choice assuming there are no problems with the inclusions. And I sort of doubt they would have the stone if there were! That is a very desirable size since you avoid the price premium for 1.5 cts. I really hope you can get her that setting that she loves!

That''s a tough call, tallsc. Some people would, some wouldn''t ... If I "knew" it was visible but couldn''t see it b/c it was hidden under a prong, it would still bother me, so I just would avoid purchasing that diamond altogether.

On the other hand, I have a friend who has a gorgeous diamond that has a significant inclusion that is, as you suggested, hidden artfully under a prong. She loves her diamond and it really is gorgeous, therefore, it doesn''t bother her. She doesn''t see it, so she doesn''t care. For that matter, I have never seen it either.

It''s a personal thing. If your diamond is gorgeous and the fact that the inclusion is there but hidden doesn''t bother you, this could potentially be a fantastic buy for you.

A diamond without inclusions tends to be more "valuable" than another diamond of like kind etc... with visible inclusions.
