Hi all this is my first post, I have been lurking for quite a while getting educated on diamonds. Anyway I thought I had finally decided on the style I wanted which was a marquise set east west like Jazmines beautiful specimen, but I just moved to Ireland and in my shopping travels saw a ring which I can''t seem to forget about. I spoke to the jeweler and he gave me some details about it.
It was made in the 60''s, handmade platinum band,3 square cut emerald shape diamonds , .90 ct centre stone, 2 x .55 either side. J colour vs2 clarity. It also has 2 small emerald cut diamonds maybe .10 either side of the center. It faces up very white and defintely catches the eye. But, here is the big but he wants 10,000 euro for it which translates to around 14,000 usd.
Any input welcome ,should I forget this ring , make him an offer or go back to the drawing board? Phew glad thats my first post done.

Hello and welcome to Pricescope, Vegemite.

It is rather difficult to make an estimate as to what the ring is worth. I don''t know what the pricing is in Europe although I hear it is MUCH more expensive than in USA. Still, $10K Euros is very pricey.

My first question is is it just a plain 3 stone band? No engraving? No other diamonds (other than the 3 ECs)? My second question is whether there is any certification to prove that the center stone is indeed a J VS2? If not, will he allow the ring to be checked out with an independant appraiser so that you know you are paying for a J VS2 and not an I SI1?

Hi Chrono thanks for your reply, the ring has 3 square ec''s and either side of the center stone are 2 small ec ( rectangle shape) so actually 5 stones including the 2 little ones. The band is plain no engraving and the stones are bezel set. I haven''t gotten as far as asking about getting the ring independantly appraised, Ill go back and speak to the jeweler once I find someone who can check the ring out for me.
Thanks again.
