Dear all,

I'm interested in this diamond. However, the crown angle is 33.5 deg which I read is considered shallow.

As such, is it prone to chipping or cracking? Please help. Thank you.

Shouldn't be an issue as far as I know. The girdle looks like it is a good thickness. Cut is nice too, should be a blazing WHITE diamond! Might not be as firey as some others.

Nothing is black and white, safe vs. unsafe, prone vs. not-prone.

Even the thickest girdle with the greatest crown angle may chip if it is hit just right. (just wrong)

That said, thinner girdles and smaller crown angles ARE more susceptible to chipping than beefier ones.

Beefier stuff is stronger than thinner stuff.

Personally I'd go for the crown angle that gives me optimum light performance.
Then if you are concerned chipping set the diamond in a full bezel setting and/or insure it.

what crown angles give optimum light performance? My solasfera has 33.9 crown angle and it maxes out the gemex. doesn't seem like a huge difference from 33.5

DD, Kenny,

Thanks for your help. I went down and looked at the diamond today and I can see the color in it maybe due to the large size. As such, I'm passing this up.
