Is this antique diamond engagement ring fairly priced?

Hello everyone!

I'm currently engagement ring shopping, and have finally found a ring that I like! What's tricky about it, for me, is the tinted diamond. I've scoured the boards--reading about champagne (brown) diamonds, non-fancy colored diamonds, and antique jewelry--but as someone with little to no experience purchasing fine jewelry, I could really use some advice.

Does the diamond actually look kind of "sad" instead of proudly colored? Is it a fair price at just under $4000? If not, what would be fair? Really, any insight, advice, comments, and opinions are welcomed and appreciated. I've included the link to the item below, as well as additional pictures the seller provided for me. Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't pay it. Stone looks more like a poorly cut RB than an old cut. It's VERY tinted (they have it listed as C1). And the setting is damaged. I wouldn't pay more than 2,500 for it. And that was only if I was in love with it and it was perfect in every way.

Thank you for your comments and suggested ring, Gypsy: it's lovely, and I have not yet gone the Ebay route. Curiosity piqued!

I do have one question for you:
It is said stated that the diamond is round brilliant, so I'm not surprised there; however, how did you assess it to be poorly cut?

I don't think you'll find that to be attractive stone in person. It's not worth anything close to the asking price, especially given the champagne color. The cut is really sloppy, it looks like the cutter didn't put any thought or care into making a pretty diamond. There's a lot out there under $4000 though! Maybe something like this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/221116927929?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

As, sorry, I just re-read that the color is a selling point. We'll there are definitely much better stones to be found. But you shouldn't pay a premium for it, they are usually highly discounted.

I love the one that Gypsy found. It looks like a great stone and a pretty setting!

Ditto to the above posters, providing a few additional options:

#1 has a setting similar to the one you liked, but in good condition: the diamond looks like a much nicer specimen, but it's half the size. Then again, also less than half the price .... http://www.etsy.com/listing/104307567/platinum-art-deco-1920s-filigree?ref=usr_faveitems

#2 is about 1K more than the one you posted, but it's been up for a while: it might be worth contacting the seller to ask if they'd consider an offer. It's a really nice setting (though ask for a face-up shot - a lot of antique vendors don't take them). http://www.ebay.com/itm/230760356182?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Say a little more about your absolute must-haves, maybe?

I've been looking for a reason to go their store here in Buffalo :naughty:

If you're still considering it let me know and I'll go take a peak at it next week :D If it's you who has it reserved, shoot her an email and tell her someone is coming to check it out for you (let me know when you do this so I can set up a meeting with her) I'll take some pictures and post them here.

Kelpie Gypsy...how does this diamond look? She could find a setting if the diamond is decent...

I don't think it has the color the OP but wants but it could be the right stone for someone else. It has a large table in comparison to it's depth for an old cut but it looks like it could be a pretty stone. The price is very fair for a graded stone, even though the buyer should assume EGL is a bit soft.
