Hi, I''m shopping for an engagement ring and though I''ve read alot I still have alot to learn. I''m pretty sure we''re looking for something that''s in the .33-.5 range for size and hopefully a D IF (I know I''m paying for something I can''t see but its the symbolism that I''m after). There''s a setting I really like at Shane Co. and they told me they''ll set any diamond in it and gaurantee the setting including the diamond if it should fall out and be lost for $2.50 per point. So, I went in today and of course they tried to sell me one of their diamonds and I''m open to listening. It was a D VVS2 with cut graded excellent according to the GIA report and Very Good symmetry and pollish with a strong blue fluoresscence I think you can see some info in it here http://www.shaneco.com/order/ShoppingBasket.asp?dskuid=13308 but it doesn''t show much. So, I showed them the GIA cert and AGS cut report of the GOG diamond I''ve been looking at. You can find it here: https://www.pricescope.com/origin.asp?id=98250&sh=8&prc=2180 The man who was helping me said that it was a good diamond but that the cut wasn''t perfect. The GIA cert says the demensions are 4.64 x 4.7 x 2.87 and he said that''s not as round as the one he was showing me. The GOG site lists the stone as 4.63 x 4.68 x 2.88 even though the GIA cert says otherwise. He also said that since the GIA cert says the Girdle is "medium - slightly thick" that it would vary from place to place around the diamond. He also said the number on the top left of the little drawing on the GIA cert should be 50% instead of 55% (sorry, for the life of me I cannot find what that measurement is). So, I guess what I''m asking is: Can I be sure the GOG diamond is a really well cut diamond? I think its kind of silly to spend the money for the D IF if you aren''t going to get a really well cut stone. Thanks in advance for your help.
