I'm forever on the hunt for a great OEC. What do you all think about this one? I own the yellow gold one which is a 1.43. The upper one is estimated at 1.25 carats, L color and SI clarity. The seller is willing to sell me the diamond by itself, so please ignore the setting.

I'm no OEC expert but the center of the stone appears dark in both photos. Not sure if that's a reflection of camera or just darkness due to its cut. How do you find it personally? Bright and lively or frequent darkness in the center of the stone?

Nala, do you have any more pics? From that one pic I agree with thecat. Seems the center facets are dark/off. I need more pics to tell. You have seen it in person however. Is it a lively stone? Are the facets more on than off? Is the facet pattern/light play pleasing to your eye?
And does it have a GIA/AGS/EGL certificate or none at all?

I agree...does the center ever turn "on"?

I agree the OEC is too dark in the centre but it could just be bad pics, the OMC in the yellow gold is more like what a typical OMC should look like and they can be tricky to photograph, it might be O.K depends if the maltese cross in the centre goes off and on or if it stays dark all the time. I'd pass on the OEC, if the OMC stays dark in the centre area in person then give it a miss as well....

What I have just learned in the past week is that some OECs optics are very hard to capture.
If you see great optics in real life, there are ways to get the stone to behave for the camera =)

It has a beautiful facet pattern. I hope it lights up for you!

Yes! My concern is about the facet pattern. IRL, it is very lively, and I think the darkness is being caused by the picture...as I don't even see this in real life. I chose to upload those photos to highlight the facets bc in the other photos, there is no dark center, but the facets are harder to appreciate--that's why I'm confused

Can you give details on what the confusion is? Not sure I understand, and I want to.
It has similar optics to mine, I think. Is think what you are seeing?

When the camera is very close my head & camera cause the dark center... p1130340.jpg

8-12" away... joy7.jpg

and arm's length... img_4701.jpg

further edit: In low light IRL I see the facets & pastel flash, in bright light more sparkle that "blocks" seeing the facets, i.e., "fire-ball-ish"

LOL. I took a lot of pictures of this ring, but chose to post the ones that exhibit the dark center bc I wanted to showcase the facet pattern. For some reason, the other pictures which do not show the darkness in the center, also do not exhibit the facets. I'm confused because I don't know if the stone's facets are a good for an OEC, esp. bc they are so hard to capture in pictures and the lighting in the store does not help!

do you have daylight photos?

Sorry I didn't read your post up the top well enough - I love the OMC - how does it compare to that in real life?

Thanks for your photos! Yes, that is what I think is happening. I don't have any daylight photos, but will post the other photos that were taken from different angles.

Thank you! The OEC is just as lively, not as yellow as my light yellow OMC.

I'm so glad they helped. I felt as though I was exposing Joy's less that glam photos to scrutiny, but when I was deciding between her and a slightly more modern OEC I had the same concerns. I've been blown away by the multiple personalities of the more rustic cut.
Looking forward to more photos from you!
