Hi Archie,

Im pretty much a newbie to this site, so I cant comment on your diamond. However, there is some good information on ideal cut diamonds at these sites

http://www.goodoldgold.com/ideal_cut_diamonds.htm

http://diamonds.pricescope.com/agsideal.asp

Sorry, I dont know how to link yet.
I just tried to enter the stats into the HCA (cut adviser) and it rated it a 2.6 -Very Good. Maybe someone else can comment?

No, it's not an AGS0 Ideal. The crown angle is too shallow at 33.6'... It should be at least 33.7'. As for the pavilion, AGS has recently switched to angle measurement and not anymore percentage. In order to qualify for an AGS0 rating, it should be not more than 41.2'.
One more thing: an AGS0 Ideal cut has ideal polish, symmetry and proportions. Usually equivalent stones can be found in GIA graded ex/ex finish (and not vg/vg) and a Sarin or OGI report showing zero ideal cut proportions. So technically this one, being vg/vg and AGS1 for the crown does not qualify for AGS0. That doesn't mean it could be extremely attractive, obviously.

This sounds like a nice stone.. if it does not come with tremedous claims to perfection and the respective premium. It could be a great deal if such acceptable cut is paired with the right price, I supose.

Thanks for all your nice replys to my question,I feel better in our purchase,We paid $2500 for the set. The wedding band has five diamonds, each .10 carats for a weight of .5 carets and is set in 18K gold with platinum prongs on both bands

That sounds like a great price, and the diamond sound very nice. The fluorescence might make it look whiter than it really is.

It really shows very white face up and in the sunlight it shows all the colors of the rainbow and under a blacklight it glows bright blue,Wow! we really like the effect in the dark,we are so happy with what we got.

Wow, $2500? From where?

We bought the rings from a private seller on e-bay,the auction ended with no bids,we contacted the seller who lives locally in our area and were able to see the rings. We had the rings looked at by our apprazier in the Denver area he said the center stone was worth $5000 and if we were to pass he would make an offer close to $2500. The set was bought new from blue nile and she said her former husband paid more than $6000,she gaves us the GIA cert plus a appraisal from blue nile for $8750.00 for the center stone,I guess we got lucky being in the right place at the right time as she has a new boyfriend and is thinking of getting married again and wanted something new.My wife is like Wow! everytime she puts her rings on now,I an so happy for her and we plan on passing on her jewelry to our grandkids when the time comes, hope this reply is not to long but that's how they came into our posession. I don't know if using one angle and one percentage had an effect, but it scored a 3 on the HCA -- very good for light return, fire, and scintillation, and excellent for spread.

It does sound like a good deal. How lucky that you happened to live nearby!
