I have been a long time lurker and have gained invaluable information on this forum. I have gone through the tutorials numerous times and still am unsure of my confidence in picking out a good stone. I am thinking of purchasing the following stone and wanted opinions on whether it was a good cut.

GIA Certified
Carat Weight: 1.70
Colour: F
Clarity Grade VS1
Cut Grade: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None

Table: 57%
Depth: 62.2%
Crown: 35 degrees
Crown: 15%
Pavilion: 41.4 degree
Pavillion: 44%
Cutlet: None
Girdle: Medium

What do you guys think?

Hi Hol! Welcome to PS!

The carat weight, color & color combo are great but I think that if you are looking for a diamond with fantastic light performance or one that is really "sparkly", there is some room for improvement cut wise.

I ran the numbers through the Holloway Cut Advisor and this diamond scored 4.8 or "Good, only if price is your main criterion". A score under 2 is the desirable range. This result is likely related to the steep pavilion angle.

If you have seen this diamond in person and love it, you may wish to get an Idealscope image, if possible, to further assess it.

Good luck with your search.

If you are interested, click here and here. This Whiteflash A Cut Above diamond is known for it''s great cut and the GOG diamond is marked as being a Hearts & Arrows diamond, also superior cut ... if you are looking for an ideal cut diamond, of course.

Welcome!

I would pass on this one, unless you have seen it and love it. It is bordering on what we call steep deep, which means in can leak light and not perform well - the crown and pavillion angles suggest this.

If you tell us what you are looking for, and an idea of budget, be it a branded hearts and arrows cut superideal or just a finely cut diamond which has plenty of performance and sparkle, then we can suggest some diamonds which may be suitable for you, once we know what you want.

I can''t add anything to what Sparkalicious & Lorelei have already said, but just wanted to say ''ditto''.

I definitely agree with that HCA score you could find a diamond with much better light performance than this one.

Can you give us an idea of your budget and parameters for size, colour & clarity?
