Is this a good stone?

It is a great diamond! The ACA line is WF's top line of stones. I think this is a terrific choice!

Thanks for the replays!

What is an ideal depth percentage, and is it worth the extra money to get the ACA diamond?

Get the ACA. Can't go wrong! :)

I would have to agree with not paying more for carat weight you cant see. The spread on that diamond isn't too large, and most weight is going to be lost on part of the diamond you will not see. If you are ok with a .75 ct diamond, I would save money and pay for one of that weight with correct proportions, as opposed to a larger stone that looks smaller. It has also been my experience, that for some reason, the points of princess cuts, pears, and marquises tend to pick up color more than other stones, so the I color may be intensified.

Good luck!

what would be a good spread for a princess cut diamond? I am looking for the best value so how can get a diamond with a large spread and one that looks bigger?

Any recommendations on whitefish?

The diamond you picked is beautiful... As you read the responses from posters be sure to see when they joined... Check out some of their other posts... It seems you have two really new posters here zapping :nono: a very nice diamond. Whiteflash also gives a discount to Pricescope members for the first purchase.

Also of note... The spread on the diamond you picked isn't smaller than the James Allen as the NEW poster suggested or more shallow where the poster says weight is being hidden. James Allen is also a trusted vendor and also gives a discount to Pricescope members.

I'm not a princess expert... But personally I like the ratio (the width and length are very close) of the Whiteflash diamond.

I'm new to PriceScope, but have been a jeweler for three years. On;y giving the best advice I can, after seeing many many many diamonds and knowing what most of my customers like best. Stones are just so hard to buy online! Best of luck!!

Welcome... I was just pointing out the ACA's are some of the nicest stones... Hard to go wrong.. And I thought the spread and depth looked great and the comparables posted did not look better...

Hi,

I think if you go look at the rules for PS you will find that those people in the trade are not allowed to comment on other vendors stones.

THanks for all your Help and advice, Is the price reasonable?

You were given some advice that I consider erroneous earlier on the depth of the pavilion. While the percentage seems high in comparison with what we would expect on a round stone, it is necessary to know that the rules for cutting a square are completely different from cutting a round. If you actually measured the depth percentage from the corner to corner diagonal you would find that the depth is much closer to what we would expect the depth to be if we were grading a round stone. Since a princess is measured from side to side, the depth seems very deep if you are not aware of the different rules for cutting the squares to maximize light return.

There are basically two ways to cut a diamond, no matter the shape.

1. For weight retention.

2. For beauty. Financially, if you are going to go under the magic one carat mark to say, .99 - .95 or even .90 by cutting for beauty, the loss of value will be so great that the diamond will be cut for weight retention rather than stand the 20 - 25% value loss of going under the magic number.

Sadly, most princess cuts are not cut for beauty, the rough is just so expensive and so much of the rough is lost in cutting a great princess. Paul Slegers has some excellent posts on this issue, perhaps one of our more search savvy posters can find them for you. Or better yet, perhaps Paul will see this thread and post a more complete treatise on the complexities of properly cutting a princess than I can. He is a cutter, so knows the ins and outs so much more intimately than I do.

As for the diamond you are looking at originally. Go back and look at the ASET image and then go read a tutorial on ASET images. You will then be able to answer your own question. You will have earned the knowledge that you have gained and the satisfaction that comes with making an informed decision.
