I''m new to this thread and I am amazed at all of the wonderful information I see on here. I have a quick question to ask help on. I recently purchased a 1.51 J VS2 Ideal cut diamond. I was one of the ones that went to the store convinced I would never consider a J color, but after she brought it out next to an H and I I could not see the difference. Especially $1500 worth of difference. I just wanted to get everyones opinion on the diamond I purchased. It is being set in a 6 prong superbcert tiffany engagement setting. Here are the GIA report specs:

Shape and Cutting Style: Round Measurements: 7.35-7.47x4.59 mm Weight: 1.51 carat Proportions: Depth: 61.9 % Table: 57 % Girdle: Medium to Slightly thick Culet: NONE Finish: Polish: EXCELLENT Symmetry: EXCELLENT Clarity Grade: VS2 Color Grade: J Fluorescence: Strong blue

Also, any ideas on pricing of this ring. I paid right at $7,000 for the diamond locally. Do you think I got ripped off? I wasn''t for sure....I kind of made a fast decision since I am planning the engagement for this weekend. Thanks!

Going on the info you have provided, the price is in line with diamonds of similar pedigree. The GIA report, Ex/Ex finish, and the depth and table % info are promising. To give further input we would need either more proportions information (crown and pavilion angle), or imagery (an ideal-scope would be good).

Great cut can mask color, so if it's a well-cut J it may be facing up like an average cut diamond of higher color.

If you've seen it and love the way it performs you paid a good price.

Hi Stujin, You''d better ask the diamond guy, just follow this link below

He is the expert on diamonds.

Stujin,
Do a search on Fred Cuellar here on the pricescope forum before following TKC''s advise.

Looks good at a glance. The strong blue probably helps the stone face up whiter than a "J".

I took your advice and received this response from the "Diamond Guy." See below:

A Hi Justin, Based upon the information you provided, a fair price to pay for this diamond is $3,986.40. You will have to decide if $3,100.00 difference is "ripped off". The Diamond Guy Helper

What does everyone think about this? Is this for real? I''m not sure I trust this guy or not? Thanks!

stujin,
there are 4 pages of 1.51 j vs2 diamonds in the ''pricescope your diamond'' search. you can look through there to get and idea of prices using your specs. (i think you will find them very comparable to what you paid

Well, ask him to get your exact specs and see how much HE will charge. This is his mode of operation. Next thing will come that your diamond is warped. It''s a racket.

Being diamonds (on VERY rough average) is about $5000/carat and your diamond is over 1.5 carats...you do the math...This "Diamond Guy Helper" is definitely trying to make a profit off of someone!! His answer wasn''t very professional either...don''t listen to him...
