So I went to a jeweler that is long time friends with my boss and they say they are giving me a good deal.

This was the diamond specs
GIA Certified
Carat: 1.23
Color: G
Clarity: SI1
Polish: VG
Symmetry: VG
Table: 76%
Depth: 69.5%

Price: $5,900

They are going to custom make the setting for me in platinum for $2,100
So my out the door cost will be $8,000

I looked at the diamond and it is eye clean (I actually had a hard time finding the inclusions with a 10x loupe)

Does this sound like a good deal?

Hi broken,

Without any pictures, we would just be guessing. The size of the table in relation to the depth is not a good looking indicator, although fancies are different, and numbers don''t always mean that much. However, if you''re wanting to buy locally, I would suggest having the jeweler find you AGS0 stones in your budget. They are graded for light performance, unlike GIA stones, whiich will help ensure you get a decent stone.

So would you recommend that I stay within the table and dept ranges listed here?

The diamond looked really nice and displayed well with a setting that was close in style to the one I wanted. My GF has bigger hands (ring size is about an 8) so I''m trying to get the largest stone I can while not going below an SI1 and G color.

Although it might be silly I do like having a person I can go see and all that stuff.
