Hi,
I have to upgrade my wife's engagement ring and have been looking at the following stone.

SKU: 1006243
This True HeartsTM diamond, 1.69 Carat I Color VS2 Clarity has ideal proportions and a diamond grading report from AGS

SHAPE: Round
CARAT WEIGHT: 1.69
COLOR: I
CLARITY: VS2
CUT: True HeartsTM Ideal
POLISH: Ideal
SYMMETRY: Ideal
FLUORESCENCE: None
L/W/D (MM): 7.62*7.65*4.72

L/W RATIO: 1.00
DEPTH %: 61.90
GIRDLE: Medium
TABLE %: 56.10
CERTIFICATE: AGS
CROWN ∠: 35.00
Pavilion angle 40.60

HCA score is 0.9 and it is right in the center of the box range.
Idealscope images look great on the JA website.

I am planning to set this in a pave cathedral engagement ring.

I am looking for advice if this is a good deal and if this stone will be a good buy for an enegagement ring.

Thank you for your thoughts.

It looks like a great choice. An ASET would round out the assessment, but the idealscope looks great!

Thank you for your reply. I have asked for ASET images.
I am also wondering if going for a I/IF vs I/VS2 is worth it?
Basically the original diamond is I/VS2/1.69carat for 12.7k while I just saw a I/IF/1.8 carat for 17.1k and it looks amazing.
17.1k is quite a stretch but doable if the extra 4k adds long term value.
Any opinions?

What are the specs of the IF? Hard to say based solely on weight and clarity.

For me personally, for $4k extra (that you don't sound convinced you want to spend), I would rather have a much bigger VS stone.

And long-term value … go where you get a good trade-up policy.

Hey mate - just a quick comment - If you/she likes it that's one thing, but unless you're purchasing a diamond as an investment (which is a whole different level from what you're looking at) please don't ever buy for 'long term value'...other than the value you'll get out of it from your marriage ;-)
Also, an I colour IF clarity combination is a bit of a hard sell on the best of days even when brand new...I would iimagine pre-loved will be even tougher to move without having to take a big hit on the price.
Hope this helps

Got it. Thanks for your input. Will stick to the I/VS2 combination as it gets the largest stone.
