Okay. Here''s another diamond I found. Is this a good one? How much is it worth? Should I be worried about the fluorescence?
I appreciate all of your help and advice.

The flouro isn''t an issue...but the cut isn''t great. I would keep looking personally...

this may sound dumb, but what ideally, is the cut should I be looking for? I''m semi-new at this.

There are a lot of variables, but the simplest way is to stick with AGS0 graded diamonds, which get the absolute best grade for cut. AGS has a very strict formula for grading cut and I haven't seen an ugly AGS0 yet.

With GIA excellent cuts, some are truly great, and some are not so great. What you want to do is to take the measurements from the report and plug them in here:

Any stone that scores below a 2 is worthy of consideration and is probably pretty darn nice. I want to stress though that ANYTHING below 2 is good, lower isn't better here. Just use it as a rejection tool for those scoring over 2 and then use your eyes and idealscope photos to choose the best one for you.

jay, I take it you're buying online? If so, in addition to neat's post, if you want to make sure (as sure as one can be without seeing the stone/having it appraised) that you're getting a good stone, make sure when you plug the numbers into the HCA, that the x falls in the overlap area of AGS/GIA. That area "should" ensure you've got a nicely cut stone.

Good point Ellen!

And try to get a magnified photo at least, and an ideal scope image as well if available. This will help you to verify what the HCA is telling you.

What is your budget and are you open to buying from one of the internet vendors that the PS community endorses?

35/41.2 CA/PA combo has lots of leakage. Keep looking for something cut better.

Hi All! Thanks for your help.
To those of you who are wondering, it is from a reputable (online) PS dealer and It is being offered to me at $4854.00

I will ask for an ideal scope photo. Here is a photo of the diamond.

That would be good!

It''s looking a little dark under the table, but hard to say from one pic. You might ask for a Sarin report too, that would help.

Ditto, IS and Sarin could be a good move.

Ok. I asked for a sarine report and an ideal scope photo. Hopefully they will deliver. So far, in your opinion, is the price they offered me ($4854) fair for this diamond?
Thanks again!!

If it is nice, sure. But personally if it turns out to have a lot of light leakage I''d prefer another stone.

Yes, the price is good. But let''s wait to see how well it''s cut, that''s most important.
