Hmmm... last couple of days i had an idea about my e-ring. Now I havent actually talk to FH about this and it probably will not eventuate if he doesnt agree with it (I dont want to hurt his feelings afterall)

My mother gave me a solitaire ring that she bought when she was much younger, she bought three solitaires and intend to give one to each of us (I have two other brothers) when we get marry. Now the ring was purchased at least 20 years ago and it was when my father was a jeweller.

There is no lab cert (it wasnt popular back then, and my father wouldnt dare to jibbed my mother lol!), and I am just guessing (with my super newbie eyes) that stone should be around 0.5

What I am thinking of doing, as my e-ring is only a 0.3, is to incorporate my mother''s stone as the center one, purchase another 0.3 and put my current e-ring stone and the other 0.3 as side stones, so it become a 3 stone e-ring.

I will still wear it as my e-ring, and at the same time I can wear the present my mother gave me.

is this thinking silly? or should i just leave it and make my mother''s solitaire as a pendant? will it even be worthwhile doing that?

P/S I will try to take some pictures of the ring tonight.

Thanks girls and guys!!!

I don''t see anything wrong with doing that. I think a three stone will look quite lovely. I think it''s great that you''re incorporating your mother''s stone to something as special as an ering. But it is definitely a good idea to talk to your fiance before at the risk of hurting his feelings. He may feel that your 0.3 is upstaged by a larger 0.5.

I think that it sounds like a great idea (as long as your FI agrees)! The stone ratios are pretty similar to my three stone that I just got for my 10th wedding anniversary (it now acts as my wedding ring). My center is .51 with .27 on each side.

I think that is a terrific idea as long as your fiance is okay with it! You can see how beautifully Dana''s ring turned out!

ohhh Dana!! that is such a lovely ring! thats exactly how i wanted it to be!

will talk to FH tonight and make sure hes okay with that, as fabcrab say, i dont want him to feel upstaged at all (and as most of you know, mens heart are really fragile)

As long as fi is okay with it and you like the diamond, then I don''t see why not. If you don''t like the stone, then I''d wear it as a pendant or as a sidestone instead of the center stone of a three-stone ring.

it will look wonderful! And it will have added meaning to you.

I think it is a great idea (as long as FI is okay like everyone said).

Thanks everyone for your input, I just mentioned it to FI and he said no LOL!!!

I tread it very carefully, you know, the hey you remember that ring my mom gave me, since i dont use it, what do you think of incorporating that? he followed with the err... i think they will stuff it up by doing that. When I ask if its really he worry about them stuffing up, or is it he will be offended. He said yes, he doesnt like me changing the ring he gave me.

LOL! men! oh well, it was a nice thought... though he finished off by saying ''if finances allow later, how about an upgrade instead so you can have a bigger rock?''

obviously he doesnt want FMIL''s rock in the e-ring! hahahaha!

*off to do a pendant setting search*

Oh, well... How about putting it in a great pendant or something?

I second the pendant idea too. What about the ballerina pendant from Whiteflash!! I absolutely love that design

will it look ridiculously small for a pendant?

It''s a beautiful ring: I love its current setting. You can keep it as a right hand ring if you want to keep it intact. Otherwise, a Ballerina pendant is a good idea as others have mentioned here. No, it isn''t too small. I have a 0.43ct diamond set in a bezel as a pendant that I wear everyday. It''s a good size for everyday wear and still has enough oomph for dressier occasions too.

I think it''s a great idea!

I dont'' think it would look silly as a pendant at all.

Another idea: You could still do a three stone RHR with that one as the center and two colored stones on either side.

Definitely not too small for a pendant.

Ditto, pendants usually run smaller than rings I think. It''s a great size for a pendant!
