What do you think about this stone?
Its a little more than I want to spend, Hoping to get the stone and ring for $6k (platinum setting)
Is this a good diamond for the money?
What might you reccommend for $600 less?

Also, is ''Faint'' Florescence a bad thing?

"Is this a good diamond for the money?"

Potentially, seems like.

Check out the schmootz under the table (ask them if it is eye clean)...suggested you get the option saved for you, request an ideal scope, and seek advice from veterans who know to read these things. Since the proportions suggest it could be an AGS0 candidate, you could ask Jim if he has an opinion as to why it wasn't submitted there. Also, unless you want E vs F, you could ask Jim about one of several others he's offering for less that are F SI 1s, but which seem to not be as cherry on proportions, and ask his opinion on those. You'd see them all in the search by cut db.

But, not sure what Jim would base his opinions on. I think he's using virtual lists for these, and has some sort of cooperative ownership deal, but I have no idea. I got my option from a virtual list, and from him...and there's nothing inherently wrong with that. Other options on the same board are significantly more, when they are with others, and unambivalently in-house.

I think this diamond looks great, beautiful proportions. An ideal scope picture would help to make sure, and Jim can get this for you. You could save a little money by going a little lower in color without much visible difference down to a G or so. Also, don''t forget to ask for the pricescope discount if you purchase from james allen. It''s not much, but it helps. I think it''s about 5% with the bank wire.

forgot to add about faint flor. Make sure the flor. is blue instead of yellow. Other than that, faint flor is not a bad thing at all. It shouldn''t distract from the diamonds beauty, and some people like this quality a lot! What you will notice is a hint of faint periwinkle color in the sunlight. Flor. doesn''t present a problem of the diamond looking milky or cloudy until strong flor. and even then it is rare that a diamond looks milky or cloudy.

Ditto Ira and Koursie - it looks good!

Thanks for all of the advice.
I have been coming here for the last 3-4 weeks studying all about diamonds.
I new there was a lot to know, but wow...its pretty crazy.

I actually going to purchase the diamond at a Brick & Mortar.
I am running out of time and I''ll need to look a few in person before I purchase.

I''ll have to compare the F color to a G color.
As far as Inclusions or blemishes go, I just want a diamond that won''t show these via naked eye.
She doesn''t have a microsope, so I think I''ll be good.

I guess the fire and wow factor is my biggest goal, as well as telling her its a full carat.

Thanks again for your help.
I''ll definately ask for an Idlescope now that I''ve seen what looks good and bad.

Thanks again.

K,

A bit confused. You''re going to look at the stone you posted in detail about at a B&M store?

Sounds to me like the JA diamond may not be an option anymore becasue there isn''t enough time. You do know, Nivek that these diamonds are sent overnight right?

"Sounds to me like the JA diamond may not be an option anymore becasue there isn''t enough time. You do know, Nivek that these diamonds are sent overnight right?"

Im not proposing until the 19th of October, maybe the comment above was joking.

Anyways.
I went to the Brick and Mortar and was completely turned off.
I''d look at a diamond and ask why one was better than the other and he appeared very offended.

He showed me a 1 ct. G S1, with a table % greater than the depth %. The numbers just looked wacky compared to what I''ve been reading here for Ideal prortions on a round diamond. $6800 was the price!.
Is there any way you can justify a 1.0 ct. G S1 for $6800?
He later showed me .81 ct for $5500 and a .90 for $5800
These numbers seem high to me...I realize Im not providing more detail, I forget what he said.

At this point Im just about sold on purhasing online, James Allen, Whiteflash, BlueNile, etc.
Any highly recommended sites? Curious is financing typically available via internet sales?

Any thoughts on this Gem?

The F looks good, too. Slightly deep. There may be a 5% PS discount.

Ditto, by the way jamesallen, good old gold, whiteflash, bluenile and others are all great places to buy from.

Thanks,
I appriciate your help.

I may take care of this today, all this reserach gets stressful.
Have any of you gotten the setting too? were you pleased?

My plan was to get the setting done at a Brick and Mortar.

Also, have any of you had a bad experience via internet purchase?
Maybe an independant appraisal highly disagreed with the GIA report?

Im just a bit nervous about the internet purchase
Maybe I''ll call and order rather than hitting a ''submit payment'' button.
Thanks for reading.
