Hey, I''m new.

My bf recently proposed and we had agreed to go look for rings together.

The thing is, we found this 0.4896 G SI1 and its about $1,385.00. Is this a good diamond?

What do u guys think?

Is it too small? I notice that almost everyone here has more than 1 carat stones!

How exciting Celine, do you have more information on the stone of of the certificate like table, depth, pavilion and crown angles? Is it a round brilliant? Have you seen it in person and could you see the inclusions since you say it is an SI1?

Hey Skippy,

Thanks!

Its a round brilliant, and the guy at the shop told us that its under AGS warranty. That should be good rite? He insisted that its a bargain cos its just under 0.5 carat and thefore we can get a good price.

I couldnt see any inclusions and he told me that he could see 3 small ones...

Anyway, he also tested it on this isee2 machine (whatever you call that!) and it measures a 9.4.

I have no idea on the crown or pavillion or table. Haha. I guess I''s still new to all these although I have always wanted a solitaire on my own!

cheers!

do you know if it was an AGS ideal cut, ideal symmetry and ideal polish?

Oooh, that''s a gorgeous stone Skippy! Nice find!

wow... it is nice!

but then again , i am staying all the way across the other side of the world (Malaysia!)

The salesman told us that if its slightly bigger, 0.51, then it will be $2,100.00. That''s quite a significant price leap huh?

Anyway, although it is supposed to be nearly colourless (G), I couldnt help noticing that it''s tinted slightly yellow when i removed it from the shop''s spotlight. Is this normal?

By the way, Skippy, I wouldnt know, but I think it''s ideal cut (?). a bit lost here

I'm inclined to say you are maybe hyper-sensitive to color or perhaps it was picking up some environmental colors, because a <.5 ct G (or H) should look quite white.

Was it GIA/AGS graded?

edit: ok, I see it's AGS and got 9.8 on ISEE. THose are good things.

Well the stone I listed is an AGS and .53 and just one color grade higher (H) and the same price and clarity. Ideal cut can make a difference in the color; if it isn't cut well it won't be as white. hmmm, I would find that stuff out from the AGS certificate. Sounds to me you could do better online, maybe.
