Hi. :) This is my first post. I want to get the veterans of this board to give a professional opinion for the following specifications of this diamond.

Carat Weight: 0.818 Carat
Color Grade: H
Clarity Grade: VVS2
Cut Grade: Excellent

Measurements: 5.96 - 5.99 x 3.70 mm

Girdle Thickness: Medium (Faceted)

Comments: Hearts & Arrows "Ideal Cut Round Brilliant"

The certificate is an IGI.

What are your thoughts? What price should this diamond be based on the specifications?

sounds good. just tell us how much it costs, and we'll tell you if it's ok...you'll get better answers that way.

JulieN,

Ok, the price is $39,300 Hong Kong Dollars. That translates to US$5,055 as of Sept 16. I''m about to propose to my girlfriend with this diamond for the engagement ring later on this month. Just wanted some real advice from users and not sales people. Hope this is enough information. :)

Welcome!

It looks like a well cut diamond, as it is an IGI graded stone, I would make the sale final on it checking out on an independant appraisal if there is one you can use in your area. Have you looked at any GIA or AGS diamonds? This page has info on how the grading labs rank.

Also because it is touted as being a hearts and arrows stone, doesn't necessarily mean it is a true example of the cutting style, some well cut diamonds can exhibit a strong arrow pattern yet not be true H&A. However if this isn't a concern and you like the diamond that is the main thing.

Online prices for branded/signature hearts and arrows H VVS2 (or something similar) is about $4000. I think the price is ok if it really is hearts and arrows H VVS2 (or something like that.)

Thanks for the reply. :) The diamond is sale to the public at Chow Sang Sang which is a local chain store but ranked as one of the better chain stores. Would a diamond coming from a chain store have a guarantee of authenticity more then a small independent store? I did have a look at the diamond (under micorscope)and it seems to my untrained eye to look great. The fire looks ravishing and just sparkles. It''s like a little boy buying candy. :)

JulieN,

It seems that the diamond is slightly expensive compared to your price range that you have mentioned. It is from a chain store and would believe they would charge at a slightly higher price. I''ll try to get the certificate and scan online. There are only two small red dots (blemishes) as stated on the IGI certificates.
