Hi,
Please let me know what you think about this diamond for an online purchase.

Crown Height 14%
Pavilion Depth 42%
Culut none
Symmetry excellent
Polish very good
Girdle slightly thick, faceted
Florescence none

thanks

Welcome!

Can you check the measurements given please, and especially the pavilion percentage? The Holloway Cut Advisor won''t take these numbers, so if you could check that would help - thank you!

Hi,

yes the pavilion depth percentage says 42%

I tried it in the calculator and it also wouldn''t take it, this is why I was posting.

thanks

On the report, are those the only figures you have for the crown and pavilion? On my EGL report it says -

crown --%
pavilion -- %

If the numbers are correct, then I would suggest passing on this diamond, you can do better. If they are correct, it appears the pavilion angle is shallow and not an acceptable combo with the crown %

yes it uses the wording "crown height" % and "pavilion depth" % (not just "crown" % and "pavilion" %)

we are getting a very good deal on this diamond. I just wanted to know is it total junk ... or is it more of an average stone ... or is it even higher.

Thanks for any help!

Ok see if the report looks like this one?

http://www.egl.co.za/Certification.htm

If so, as EGL USA is considered to be the most reliable EGL lab for grading, I would recommend you make any sale final on this stone, by having an independant appraisal done on the diamond, as it appears the diamond you are considering may have an EGL report other than EGL USA. That is the best thing to to if you really want this diamond.

Here is a list of appraisers - https://www.pricescope.com/appr_list.aspx

The girdle thickness is 6.2%. That is why the HCA is not accepting these inputs, since it is way too high.

Result: the stone weighs 1.01 Ct, but has the diameter of a 0.90 Ct.

Live long,
Thanks so much for your input here Paul, I missed the diameter measurements...

So sucre, have a look for some more diamonds, as if you want to buy a 1 carat diamond, you want it to LOOK the size of a 1 carat. It appears that in actual fact, this is not a very good deal after all.

If you would like, give us an idea of your budget and we could perhaps suggest some diamonds you might like, if you are open to the idea of buying online?

I will have to agree with my friend here. The HCA won''t even take the stones numbers, because the girdle is too thick (so it''s hiding weight, and not looking as big as it should. A well cut one carat should have a diameter around 6.5, this one is 6.31). And it does look like a stone that is a bit shallow on both ends (though it may well be within acceptable levels, it may not make for the prettiest/liveliest stone).

I really think you can do better. I know these things are expensive, but getting a "good deal" really isn''t the way to go about getting a beautiful diamond. Cut is what makes it "wow" you. I would suggest focusing more on cut, and possibly going down in size/color a bit.
