Can the pros tell me if this rock is an excellent or just another good rock? In terms of the percentages as im no expert in gems. Its a D IF XXX. Im also wanting to know if the "minor details in the polish are present" is something to worry about?
It has a medium to slightly thick faceted girdle... is that too thick?
Its about $15k Australian dollars so a pretty big decision for an exgagement ring for my fiance to be.
thanks

Tam

It looks promising, can you get an Idealscope image for this diamond? D IF are incredibly high specs, is this your personal preference? The reason I say this is because you could drop both colour and clarity and still have a very clean and white diamond, but of course it is a personal preference.

Is there a particular reason you want a D IF stone?

You can easily drop clarity down to the VVS-VS range and still have a perfectly clear to you eye stone and the colour and still be icy white. For your budget you can definitely go a much larger stone.

That aside the stone scores as such on the HCA

Light Return Excellent
Fire Very Good
Scintillation Very Good
Spread
or diameter for weight Very Good

1.9 it is within GIA ex range but outside of the AGS0 range :) most would like to aim within the AGS0 box :).

Have you seen the stone what do you think of it?

I''m gonna be a lil more direct, lol - Please DO NOT pay for D IF!
Tam, pls take it from a fellow aussie - you have no need to pay for these grades to get a white sparkly stone - in real life, most people can not see the colour difference between a D and F/G. But even more so, NObody can see the difference between VS and FI - you are perfectly safe with an accurately graded VS1 from a good lab and reputable vendor (read AGS or GIA for lab and one of the heavily recommended PS vendors)..

Also, the advantage of this is you can either - a) get a Much bigger stone (most girls want..) or b) save the money or c) spend the extra on the engagement, wedding etc.

To be honest 15k is Alot for less than a ct - i mean A-lot.
you''ve started on the right foot by asking for help here. If you consider this advice we can always help you find other contenders if it seems overwhelming.
ps. If you want D If for personal or sentimental reasons, then of course thats completely fine aswell!

Tam, the stone definitely has potential. An IS pic would be great, but if you can''t get one, you could have an independant appraiser taker a look at it, provided you have a good return policy.

I will echo the others, unless you are specifically wanting the highest of color and clarity, you could lower things a bit and not see any difference.

Fair enough :)

Should you not be happy with the one you found I found another that could have potential based on the info so far provided :) it is a D VVS1, larger and only slightly more expensive :). 1.25ct D VVS1 H&A
