Is this a good diamond?

My fiance proposed with a fashion ring so I could pick out my own. I found the perfect setting and we are just about to pick out the diamond, but I wanted to make sure we are getting a good one. It is a .25, as I have small fingers and no desire to break my fiance's budget and just prefer the smaller stone. Plus a smaller higher quality stone will be a million times more beautiful than a bigger but low quality one. Here are the rest of the stats that I know.

Shape: Round
Color: E
Cut: Excellent
Clarity: VVS1
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Certification: GIA

There is too little info to tell....For this size of stone, you can probably spend the same amount and get a VS1 excellent cut with excellent polish and symmetry which may make the diamond more brilliant than a VVS1 with VG polish and symmetry.

But how much more substantial? I don''t think I could find one the same price, I am buying mine through a private party who is looking to offload it and is willing to give me an amazing price. I took it to an independent jeweler to make sure it was the diamond that matched the grading report. I really want to keep this as inexpensive as possible, but I don''t want my fiance to buy a piece of crap.

Cut is the most important thing for sparkle in a stone. Color, most would be hard press to tell the difference between a E and G/H unless the stones are side by side. Clarity, as long as it is eye-clean, even an SI1 will look and perform the same as an IF.

So in theory, you could go H/SI1, get a bigger stone and no one can tell the difference. Depends on you preference.

I don''t want a bigger stone. I tried on a 1/4 carat at a jewelry store and knew that was the perfect size for my hand and my more active lifestyle

Really, not enough information about the cut so can''t really know if it is a piece of crap of not. What did the appraiser say? And do you like it in all viewing conditions? I am assuming you saw the stone already?

The appraiser about choked when he heard how much fiance would be paying for it, and asked to rub us both for luck. It is a gorgeous stone, it has a rainbow whenever it hits the tiniest bit of light. I had it is direct sunlight, in a sort of dim room, and under the florescent light of the jewelry store. He''s been appraising diamonds for over 20 years.

Yep. As soon as the diamond is set, I''m going back for a total appraisal. I think I will go with it, it just feels right to me.
