Is this a good deal?

I''m very new to this site and find it so informative . I am considering buying 4.01 radiant J VS1 at $26,000.00. I do not know the depth, table,etc, etc. I am upgrading my 3 ct. pear H SI2 and was hesitent going to a J but it is beautfully cut and brilliant.
I have a good friend in the "wholesale" diamond business in the NY City diamond district. I realize you do not get any for nothing so I really do not mind them making a slight profit but am I getting a good deal? I have been looking for a long radiant as I love that longer look. I guess what I am asking is.........do you get good deals going to the diamond district in New York City and am I getting a good deal?
I have searched PS for pricing and there isn''t alot but I did find rings in that price range. Shouldn''t they be more as I thought I was getting a somewhat "wholesale price". They told me they would wholesale it out at 32,000.00 and retail it for 42,000.00. Could that be true?

I don''t think they are truly going to be able to help you unless you give them more info on the specs of the diamond. Also, what lab graded it? Quickly checking the prices section shows an EGL 4.02 J VS1 radiant for 3K less than what they are offering it to you for.

Better point, and I see this one now, with odd table & depth. Per the thread's title, is this a good deal...you'll find no deal a good deal unless it's cut well. Things like an idealscope eval will help you evaluate this.

Thanks so much for the feedback from all of you................They are giving me a good trade-in price for that pear (without papers) as I have checked around with other reputable dealers who came up with the same trade -in amount. I will be paying the difference. I also have some old diamonds from my mother but came out of the setting with tons of chips so they all have to be cut down. They gave me a good trade in on those also. All in all......my out of pocket was minimal.
Of course, not being as knowledgable as most of you are .........I go by emotions and desire and wanted the biggest "bling" I could get!!! Hey........I waited 40 years for it!! Sorry I don''t know the depth, table etc.......I just know the cut is beautiful and it''s big and sparkles!!! ! Thank you for your reply!!

Sharon......your ring is amazing!! What cut are those side stones and if you don''t mine me asking.....how big and what cut is the center???????!!!!!!
The pear was a trade in, plus other diamonds I traded in so the cost was to me was minimal.
