Is this a good deal?

I'm looking at a Forever Mark round cut 1k diamond engagement ring. The price on the ring is $9k, the salesman and manager took the price down to $6500, claiming it on account of their being an inconvenience since the entire front of their store us under reconstruction. I did not even really have to negotiate yet I just told them I was looking to spend around 6,000 (wishing now I said a little less) Does this sound like a good deal, it's exactly the ring I want, but after tax it's still just out of my price range.

Post the cert or at least the angles and 4Cs...otherwise there is no way anyway can tell you if it's a good deal.

It's a G
Excellent cut
VS1
18k setting

We still need more info: dimensions, table %, depth %, crown angle, pavilion angle, etc. Do you have ASET/IS images?

Did you mean 1 carat earlier when you wrote 1k?

If so, I bought a BGD super ideal 0.867ct H VS2 for $4,700. Pretty sure we could find you a super ideal 1 carat G VS2 for $6k or less.

Yea it was a one carot, and that price I put includes the setting which would be around $2000 by itself.

What setting are you looking at?

It is highly unlikely you will get a good stone or a good deal from this store.

That setting better have some diamonds in it for that price!

Hm, reducing the price by almost 40% because of such a minor inconvenience by itself sounds so sketchy that I'm not sure I could trust em... And what do you mean it's the exact ring you're looking for? Is there a specific setting you had in mind going into the store? Or you saw it and felt it would do nicely for your impending engagement? How did you figure the setting alone is worth/would cost $2000?

A very typical sale tactic from a very typical B&M who carries ForeverMark.

Rule #1 ...never tell them how much money you have in your pocket. The mall sharks will eat you alive!.

I'd like to see this setting as well. I went custom with pave and channel set diamonds and was close to that number. Also it was a white gold/palladium alloy that was just $200 cheaper than platinum.

A plain solitaire can be had for $300 or so.

I noticed you said 18k so am I correct to assume yellow gold? Do you have a picture or link?

The initial price was way too high so not the deal you think it is.
