Is this a good deal with a tight budget?

Saw this stone online from a local retailer. I don''t have a knowledge in diamonds... but the results from the Holloway Cut Adviser seems pretty good.

Cert: EGL
Shape: Round Brilliant
Carat: 1.41
Measurements: 7.12 x 7.08 x 4.44mm
Total Depth: 62.4%
Table Width: 55%
Crown Height: 15%
Pavillion Depth: 43%
Girdle: Medium, Faceted
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Cutlet: None
Clarity: SI1
Colour Grade: G
Florescence: Moderate
Price: 3,864 CAD

Comments on the Cert includes that it is clarity enhanced. I emailed the seller, he said it is eye clean. Despite the clarity enhancement... do you think this is worth a look in person still?

Thanks~

No, the price looks good because it is clarity enhanced. What that means is that it is probably an original I1/2, had holes drilled into it, acid pour in to dissolve the inclusions and then fill up the holes with a filler resin. This could affect the structrual integrity of the stone, and workability of the stone in setting as the resin are weaker than the original diamond and will melt or dissolve away. Too much problem.

It depends on you, if you want a big diamond on a tight budget then CE diamonds have their place, for that budget you would have a much smaller diamond so it depends on what you want. CE diamonds have to be handled with care if you need to leave the diamond to be worked on as blowtorches and acids can cause the filling to leak out. Also you need to be careful as to what cleaners you use, from what I understand ammonia based cleaners aren't advisable. It actually isn't a badly cut stone, I don't think you will find many here will encourage you to go for it but like I said it depends on what you want. If you look at EGL graded diamonds you might be able to find a non enhanced stone which might not be quite as big but might enable you to get a somewhat larger diamond for the budget. However these diamonds do have a market, we don't see them discussed much here as people are looking for different things but I believe they have their place.
Also under normal conditions the filling if fracture filled are normally quite stable as long as you tell anyone working on the ring that the diamond has been clarity enhanced and you are careful not to use ammonia based cleaners on it. Also should the filling ever come out, then often the companies who do the treatment give a lifetime guarantee that they will redo the enhancement again for no charge.

Read more on CE diamonds here and an expert's opinion on them, suitability and potential durability concerns etc.

There are various methods of enhancement, fracture filling, lasering and so forth, do you know how this diamond was treated?

Thanks~ After reading your cautions, maybe I will pass on this one. Cause I am afterall looking for an engagement ring... the diamond is supposed to symbolize the strength of our relationship. I don''t think a CE stone will cut it. Thanks so much!

Sounds like that is the right decision for you

I do agree with Lorelei that CE diamonds have their place (very good way of putting it, Lor), but certainly for some people an e-ring is not one of them. Better to pass and find something that you feel good about if it doesn''t feel ''right'' to you

Great suggestions!

Thank you for the suggestions!

Question, stones with a J colour grade, would it be wise to have some florescence in it to make it whiter? Or will this mess up the colour even more?

Thanks Musey Hunny, I try to put it nicely!

Monkey, I believe you have made the right decision in deciding on a non CE diamond for your e-ring.

Blue fluorescence in a J colour to me is a great bonus as some say it can help a diamond face up whiter, apparently at least medium or strong blue is needed to make much of a difference and preferably strong blue by all accounts.

Monkey, if you are open at looking at the J/K or even L ranges and SI1 or eye clean SI2, you can get over a 1ct for that price.
I know most women here would *much* prefer that over a larger CE stone, I think you''ve made the right decision.
Plus, if you choose a top make ideal cut, it will look larger for its weight too.

I have a K coloured H&A RB, and am about to switch to an L coloured cushion.
I''d be happy to link you to photos of the K or you can search on my name if you like..I can say I *never* saw any yellow or unpleasant tint in that diamond. Face up it was white as anything in the stores they were calling a G (plus it sparkled more due to the cut
