Hi everyone:
I was fortunate enough

to stumble upon this website as I continue my search for the perfect diamond for my girlfriend. There seems to be a lot of knowledge on this forum, so I was wondering if you could give me some advice on a particular diamond that I found. The stats are as follows:

Shape: Round Brilliant
Carat weight: 1.12
Measurements: 6.76 x 6.68 x 4.11
Color: I
Clarity: SI2
Depth: 61.3
Table: 57%
Crown Angle: 34.9º
Pavilion Angle: 40.8º
Culet: None
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick Faceted
Certified Ideal Plus by EGL USA
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Price is in the mid $3,000''s

Is that a diamond worth buying in your expert opinion?

The only thing that has me worried is that it is certified by EGL, which I''ve seen listed as a not so great grading lab

on several articles I''ve encountered in my quest for my sweetie''s diamond. I did find on several articles, though, that the best of the EGL labs are the ones here in the USA. Should I even care for that? And if I do buy it, should I pay to send it to AGA for appraisal and gem inscription for peace of mind? Thanks in advance for your help

I''d suggest sticking to GIA and AGS certs. It will save you a lot of headaches. That said, if I had to get an EGL stone, I''d not go below G and VS in case the stone turns out a grade or two lower. I SI2 with an EGL cert would be mighty risky, IMO.

Have you seen this stone? Any chance to have it sent to AGA before you buy to verify the cert? It's scores a 1.5 on the HCA which is nice. might be worth getting some more info before you buy though. I agree with DS, I personally like AGS or GIA stones but there is always a chance a good EGL is out there.
