Is this a fair price for a 1.40ct F VS2 from Blue Nile?

I know there aren''t too many fans of Blue Nile here. But any opinions on the price of this diamond:

1.40ct VS2 F
Measurements: 7.28 x 7.32 x 4.39
Table: 56%
Depth: 60.1%
Culet: 34.7'', 15.3%
Pavilion: 40.6'', 42.6%
Girdle: 0.7% - 1.0%
Polish/Symmetry: Ideal
Fluorescence: Negligible

Blue Nile price: $11,148

Should I try waiting for a better offer? My fiance and I are planning to get the setting custom made along with our bands. We''d like everything to be done by mid-June. Is there still time?

The stone seems shockingly perfect and the price all right.
Actually, I am very sure the "Signature collection" at BN was not there on the website last time when I looked (probably last year!). Those stones are quite mean !

Hi valeria,

Actually this isn't part of the signature collection. I looked over the diamonds listed there, but didn't see anything special. This one is listed as "Ideal" cut rather than "Signature Ideal." Is the signature collection the H&A cuts?

Maybe they get their Signiture series from one particular cutter. Maybe there is something up with this stone that kept it from being a Signiture stone. Who knows? BN is the proverbial 800 lb internet gorilla and you might do better elsewhere.

Buy from somebody (a professional) who can put their peepers on it for you. Sending it to an appraiser is also a good option. You still have time, though with a custom setting things are getting tight!

It's not part of their signature collection, as with many dealers BN offers a mix of stones which they have in-house (signature collection) and those which are "virtual" - this stone is generally available to any dealer with access to the multiple listing service... We know the cutter, they produce a very nice stone. The price is fair and anything in the 1.40 carat range is extremely difficult to come by... Pick a dealer and grab it quick before it vanishes before your eyes, diamonds in this weight category are pretty difficult to come by.

I hear that Robin and Todd Gray over at NiceIce are good to work with. I bet their pricing on this exact stone would be competetive too.

The stone is a nice one. And, for once, the scare about seeing it vanished before long could actually be true now, regardless of how many times it is used to push sales.

Signature or not... a diamond is a diamond.

Yes I agree with nice, there are similar/same stones for less money on the web .That stone should be around $10,000.00, the size is hard to find these days ,I would suggest you act quickly.

good luck
