Is there a list of diamond appraisers in Northern NJ?

I need to get my new diamond earrings appraised. Is there a listing of recommended people available in Northern NJ? I found one person through my yellow pages, but not sure how good he is. Also, how much should it be? I called a place in NYC and they said it costs 1.5% of appraised value. Is that right?

Lots has been written here about the use of appraisers. Not sure about pricing, but it seems it's more typical to charge by time (usually), and sometimes size. Read other helpful threads under FAQs above.

Hi MaxineRet and welcome to PS

If an appraiser charges a percentage of value...run away or hang up the phone. This is totally unacceptable and unethical.
Some appraisers charge by the item or by the hour.
