I had a new halo setting made for my diamond a few months ago. I LOVE my setting, but can''t get over the fact that my center stone is too deep (63.6%) and that I may be missing on the full *WOW* effect!

I can upgrade through the B&M store where my diamond was purchased and I contacted them and they have a .66 diamond that sounds interesting - .66ct E-VS2 61.5% depth,57% table. (Full specs forthcoming)

My concern is that should I go larger than a half carat then I''d have to redesign my setting again, which I can''t justify to DH. He suggests I stay with half carat range and just get a better cut diamond.

Is there a big size difference here? Could this stone possibly fit into my current setting? Or should I just stay in the half carat range and get a better cut diamond?

Thoughts?

With the new diamond being larger in carat weight and less % depth, it'll definitely be bigger. How much bigger, I can't tell. The only way to know how much is to compare the mm dimensions. As for the setting, it also depends on the setting itself. If the size difference isn't all that big, the setter might be able to "stretch" the prongs out a bit.

ETA,
I see that you have a halo setting. In this case, it's best to bring the ring to the jeweller and tell him/her the dimension of the new diamond you are thinking of putting in and let him tell you whether it will fit. This is the quickest and most accurate way to get your question answered. I really can't tell from across the monitor.

It will be bigger, but I''m not sure it''s worth a whole setting re-make just for the small difference. If you are happy with your setting, I''d get a better cut stone in the same size range...and if you want to go BIGGER, I''d wait until you can go quite a bit bigger and can justify making a whole new setting.

Agreed. There is a size difference, but honestly, it isn''t worth it because it''s not a noticeable difference once the stone is mounted AND in a halo.
