There are some people who prefer smaller diamonds (though you probably don't hear from them as much on this forum).

I lost my anniversary ring which as .47 carat in a semi bezel setting, and changed to a .60 carat, in a prong setting. My oldest daughter said that my new diamond was too big ("too blingy" and she liked my old ring better! I think it is really more the setting that is making her respond, as the old ring was in a low bezel setting.

My personal preference is a smaller diamond, though someday I wouldn't mind rocking a larger colored stone (like a 2 carat sapphire).
