Is owning a gun a right or a privilege?

I'd say truthfully and honestly, while I don't think it's a worthwhile cause - cutting class to champion the NRA, what is good for the goose is good for the gander.. the kids are supporting each other because guns have caused their peers deaths... I can't think the same for the NRA supporters, I can't think of a good reason why NRA youth supporters would be leaving class UNLESS there was a total gun ban and it went thru.. then I can see it happening, altho the way I read the 2nd amendment, we cannot ban all guns, so I don't think it would happen.

Here is a question to think about...
Would people still feel the same way about the schools' reactions if it was for a cause they didn't agree with?

What if some kids chose to go to an NRA rally and miss a part of the school day without a signed parent note? My answer would be that they broke the school rules and needed to face the same penalty (Saturday school or suspension) as they would for any other unexcused absence.

The schools have attendance requirements. The students know this (often in the form of a school handbook they have to sign and acknowledge) as do the parents.

Freedom to peaceably assemble and freedom of speech is one of the foundations of our country. It should never be infringed. Ever.

That said, the schools need to have fixed policies that they follow. Students can coordinate to do these events after school or on a non-school day. They also can choose to do it as they are while knowing they will have to face the consequences as laid out in the school policy. (Note that I do NOT agree in any way with threats of additional action!)

good because I don't want you to have one either! So we are in total agreement here.

:lol-2: On the video games. I think society is addicted to electronics/smartphones as well. It might prove to be a bigger problem than we can even imagine. Time will tell. BTW I don't want you to have a gun either. :kiss2:

How many smart phones leave exit wounds the size of a fist???

I’m glad many of the Parkland kids were able to call and text their parents during the shooting. I can pretty much guarantee you would have wanted to speak to your child one last time.

There's always an exception - the exploding Samsungs a few years back.

But statistically speaking nope it's not usual for cell phones to injure you like that. The worst that happens is worse vision and aching thumbs.
