Hello. Please help me calm down and tell me everything is okay. I got engaged over the Thanksgiving holiday and couldn't have been happier. I loved him. I loved the setting. I loved the diamond. But the ring had to be resized and was sent away for a week. I experienced a sort of separation anxiety. I missed my stone. I began to question my stone. I starting looking at other stones. I found this forum and learned about diamond quality.
I learned that my diamond is pretty darn good. Here are the specs from GCAL and GIA:
0.86 carats
5.36 x 5.30 x 3.72 mm (1.01 L/W ratio)
Blue Nile Signature Ideal Princess Cut / Square Modified Brilliant
G Color
VVS1 Clarity
Excellent Optical Brilliance
Excellent Polish
Excellent Symmetry
Medium Blue Fluorescence
I had known nothing about diamonds and had asked him to go to Tiffany's. In my mind, Tiffany's = Guaranteed Quality. I'm glad he didn't. He went to Blue Nile. I know that their drop-ship procedures are criticized here and that they are pricier than the sites recommended here. But I feel as if he got a better deal than he would have had he gone to Tiffany's or the mall. He paid about $5500.
Now, what concerns me is the Medium Blue Fluorescence. Does it make my diamond milky? I like that it has a blue tint. It glows in the dark, which is absolutely fascinating. It looks like a star to me.
Then I went to a mall jeweler to browse wedding bands -- just to look, as I would never overpay like that. Their diamonds seemed to sparkle under the lights. Granted, my ring wasn't under the same lights outside of the display, but the light wasn't dancing the way it usually does. Is my diamond cloudy? Why does it glow white in daylight? Why am I feeling so insecure?
Here are some pictures. All were taken in daylight. Please give your opinion. Be nice and emphasize the positives. Unless there is something seriously wrong with the diamond, I'm keeping it. My fiance gave it to me and I would never trade it for another. I'm just looking for some peace of mind. I just got it back from resizing, still in panic mode, as you can tell.
