Is K color diamond worth considering?

A friend of mine is looking to buy a mens ring. Rhino recommanded a 0.94ct K color round H&A with excellent brilliance scope and ISEE results. It''s going to be set in a yellow gold ring for men. Will this combination appear too yellow? Will K color stone look funny in YG? Any thoughts?

Actually, next to the yellow of the gold, the stone should look less yellow by contrast. It's when put against something starkly white that a stone may show its slight color.

I have a family diamond that was appraised as "J/K," and I honestly had no idea it had a "slight tint" until the appraiser told me. Now that I know, I think I can tell, but when I looked at it on my own and tried to guess what color it was I had no idea.

Jonathan himself wears a K colored diamond set in yellow gold. I know, because I saw it up close when I visited his shop - and it looked white. I wouldn't have thought it was a K color if he hadn't told me.

The combination that you are asking about should be very fine!

I'm looking for a female engagement diamond and in my opinion I wouldn't go lower than an I, but most have disagreed with me so it comes down to personal preference.

I think cut is most imporant, then colour so I'm going for excellent cut in either a D, E, or F colour - but that's me! I like to pay for what you can see, and cut affects the beauty and so does the colour, I don't really care too much about clarity so I'm sticking to SI1.

But I stress I'm not an expert!!

I have a 1.25 carat, J color ACA set in platinum and it looks great!!

One of GOG's hand selected cherries, K color set in yellow gold could be awesome!!

It's a personal thing. You have to see it in various lights and decide how you like the way it looks. I love my old cut K/L, which is set in platinum.

I think a well cut J/K is fabulous, especially in yellow gold.


Put it right next to a D-E-F sotne and it will definitely look warmer and somehow more 'full-bodied' if that makes sense.


The whiter stones are gorgeous but to me they look icy.


I heard someone refer to a J as a 'more romantic' stone and that's how I see it.

You have nothing to worry about as far as the color is concerned, when mounting in Yg. it will face up whiter in contrast with the yellow metal.
I would strech myself towards a 1.00+cts.,and probably go with 1 cut,instead of H & A, the stone is going in bezel (I assume)where most of the girdle,and part of the top pavillions are going to be hidden under the bezel anyway.

A Well cut, true K will look just fine even in white gold. It's really perfect for yellow gold. If Jonathan says it's okay, you can bet it is.

Does it have any fluorescence?

Sounds like a greta choice to me, color and cut included. The color of the yellow gold will show refected into the stone quite a bit, so the K should not be of any concern. Nothign will keep the cut from showing of, I supose: this is going to be a great ring. The 1ct mark is meaningless to me.
