I have chosen an ACA diamond from Whiteflash which scored .6 on the HCA. I didn''t realise what this would mean with regards to head obstruction when I am looking at the diamond. I thought anything under 2 would be a pretty good choice.

What I am wondering is - would it be worth changing my choice (they have only just received my diamond back today) and picking something with a HCA score of more than 1 but less than 2? I spend a lot of time looking at my ring and I don''t want to see a lot of dark shadows all the time.

This is the diamond I chose originally:

I would be willing to get one from WF''s Expert Selection range if it means I would avoid the dark shadow thing. I don''t have a lot more money to spend just now. I could probably put another $100 - $150 into it. (not a lot I know!)

I saw this one and it looks like it could be a good choice and it scores 1.1

Would the difference in the head obstruction thing be noticible enough to warrant changing the diamond? Or am I just being silly?

Does it looks too dark up close?
at 34.2/40.6 it shouldn't be a huge issue and it already passed Brian's inspection.

edit: I read it as you had it, if it hasn't left WF ask for an appointment to go over the stone with Brian.

I personally would choose the second one. The color is better and it is a tiny bit larger than the other. The cut is great. It just looks like it got excellent instead of ideal on polish and symmetery which is no big deal. I''d go for as big a stone as you can get while you''re upgrading!

Oh gosh, Maisie, I''m sorry for making you second guess your choice.

That said, I like the second one too.

Ditto, and have him compare it to the other one. Then have him pick.

well I did purchase an ACA that scored a 0.6 and has a pavillion angle of 40.6. I honestly do not see any difference between that and something that scores 1.2 or 1.8 or 2.2, etc. etc. on the HCA. And you know, I have a pretty big head.

double ditto, really both stones look lovely and I don''t think you can go wrong here.

Even if the cuts were exactly the same, I''d rather have a little larger G SI1 than a smaller I VS2, assuming that SI1 is totally eyeclean, of course.

Well, it looks great in every respect to me!!! I think mentally it will mean a lot to you to go over the .80 mark, not to mention visually! Just have them check eye cleanness for you...but the magnified image looks really good to me!!!

I have emailed Celina to see if I can have a chat with her about what to do next.

No harm in comparing them now! You could ask them to compare the 2 G stones for you, but for that tiny price difference, I''d lean toward the larger unless there was a visible difference. I just bet they''d both look great!

Ditto! Me too!

And another ditto for having Brian take a look at both diamonds and have him pick.

Uh-oh, are you going to upgrade your upgrade without ever receiving it?! I''m kidding, of course...I''d go for the .8, too, if you can swing it! I''m not an expert about the head obstruction/HCA score issue but I do know that I like my diamonds as big as possible!

Oh Maisie, just $100 more than that G stone will get you above .80 cts!

That one scores 1.8...... will this be better? But its ex vg vg vg
I personally don't like the IS on that one, at all.

And you replied to Chrono, but called her me.

Really? I thought the IS looked fine. I'm betting we couldn't tell them apart in person! But by all means, have Brian look at the two G stones and the I stone and compare them.

It''s rather leaky from 7-9 o''clock. I like her other two much better.

ETA, I see you edited.

Lol I am so vague sometimes!

I see what you mean, but the stone still looks worth comparing to the other two. We''re still talking about a stone that they consider ideal cut, so I would want them to take a look at it with the others.

I don''t know if I would go bigger if it meant not getting a really great diamond. I am even more confused now

Aw, don''t be!

Let Brian compare all 3, and pick the best one for you. Easy.

Double ditto! It''s hard to go wrong with WhiteFlash ACA or Expert Selection. You''re choosing from all ideal cut stones!

Thritto! Maise, don''t be confused. I''m sure WF can help you decide which one is the best!
