Sorry if this sounds like a silly question but I''m still pretty new to PS...Do RBs really look larger than other cuts and since I have heard quite a bit that this is the case...Why do they look larger?
Is it something that is noticeable? If I had a 2ct princess and went to a 2ct RB would there be a apparent visual difference when I look at the ring?

Thanks

Squarish diamonds tend to keep more of their original, before cut weight, in the finished stone. They do this because there is generally more depth kept in princess cuts. Round diamonds are mostly thinner than fancy shapes and tend to have more "spread", diameter or visible surface area. Marquise shapes probably have the most great visual size for weight potential, but many of them are also rather deep cut, too.

This is all generalization, but you''ll find this to be the case most of the time. Of course, there are exceptions. Nature sometimes gives us rough diamonds which must be fashioned in exceptional ways to provide a combination of beauty while keeping a handle on final cost/value relationships. It is a complex story and my explanation is just the simple side of it.

Fancy shapes like princess's are typically cut deeper than rounds. A properly cut 1.50ct round will have about a 7.4mm diameter. Princess cut's can be all over the board, but I'll use an example of 6.4 to 6.5mm diameter- that I pulled from the search above. The round has a larger diameter than the princess, but what if you were to measure the princess corner to corner? I wonder if the corner-to-corner measurement would rival the 7.4mm?
I only say this because I have done some side by side comparisons where the princess and round did not appear to have an extremely noticeable size difference, but had obviously different diameters on the certs. Or it may just be the shape difference, square vs. round playing tricks on my eyes. Maybe this is a silly theory, but I thought I would post anyways.

yes, and ovals, marquise and pears tend to look bigger than Rounds.
