The title of this thread is: Is it really a trend?Date: 3/20/2010 6:03:30 AM

I have seen article after article that states that women are opting to not wear their engagement rings in lieu of bands.
I am wondering, (especially those among you who have been married for sometime or did get larger rings) if this is true for you?

can you point to one of those articles?
sounds odd to me.
Here you go. It''s not that odd, actually. I know lots of women (usually older) that only wear a band.

''lots of women (usually older) that only wear a band'' never got a larger diamond. They were engaged and married in an era of huge markups in B&M store jewelry. They probably received a .25ct or .33ct RB of average cut, and then they were into the child rearing and all those expenses, and just never could afford that diamond of 1ct or more. Loads of husbands do not believe it''s necessary to get an upgrade or anniversary larger diamond ring, and loads of women do not ever talk back to such men, nor will they go out and buy a diamond ring for themselves.
My great aunt in NYC wore a spectacular half-eternity band of large Asschers in high colors, not a wedding set.

I''ve also been doing it. Not sure if it''s a trend though. But i''ve always liked understated and minimal. M e-ring, while it doesn''t get tons of attention, at least not that I''m aware of, started making me feel self-conscious. My 5 stone is pretty big and in the last year, i can count on both hands the number of times I''ve worn it. Maybe it is the econmic downturn, not sure. I do know that I''m most comfortable just wearing my original wedding band.
I agree. I have not worn my original ering in a long time because of this. Instead I mix it up with some 1930''s/40''s pieces (protected diamond, low), carved bands, plain plat band, sapphire/diamond half eternity ring, family garnet ring from the early 1900''s and then I bought a really pretty cz full eternity ring for when I go to the gym or to the inlaws during the summer. They have a swimming pool and I took off my original wedding band to go swimming and somehow lost it. It has got to be somewhere....just somewhere hasn''t been found in four yearsDate: 3/20/2010 12:00:08 PM

I''ve notices engagement ring styles getting increasingly ornate over the last several decades - in my opinion pave just isn''t a daily wear design.
Take a look at the bare bones styles from the 1030-1940s - designed for daily wear and worn accordingly - protected girdles, diamond set flush etc.
Modern styles have so many more places for dirt to acumulate, and so many more stones to come loose.

I still love diamonds. Im sorry, I know the economy's bad and they're becoming less politically correct, but I still love the look of a big ole honkin rock, or three big ole honkin rocks! Why does everything fun turn in to 'greed and excess'. Most people who have fun toys work for it, why should they have to hide it!
I wonder, what makes you come to this conclusion?Date: 3/20/2010 10:24:25 AM
