Is it possible to remove prongs?

Hello! Long time lurker, first time poster.

I got my engagement ring a couple of months ago. It's custom made, and I designed it. I am not afraid I made a (hopefully small) mistake.

It's a three-stone, with a .95 pear center. The pear has a 5 prong setting. I am now regretting not going with the 3 prong. I wanted the extra security, but I'm afraid it may have compromised some of the beauty of the stone.

Is it possible to take it to a jeweler to remove 2 of the prongs (the 2 on the wings)? If it is possible, is it advisable?

now afraid*

Anyone have any ideas?

I think the three-stone design looks balanced with the 5 prongs. You could ask your jeweler to make the prongs more delicate by shaving some metal off the four prongs (not the prong at the tip), which would make the prongs more invisible. I'm not sure if the jeweler would need to remove the stone to do that.

Ditto- I think the 5 prongs would be fine if you could get them to thin the four out, maybe make them in to claws. It's very elegant.

I think the prongs look fine the way they are. It's a lovely ring!
