I agree with mara, But the key word is IF it's an eye clean,I think you should go for a VS stone and dont settle for anything less.don't compromise! VS is as close to vvs-if without paying the price.

Yes, IF it's eyeclean........but it's not that hard to find eye-clean SI1 stones, especially is you're concentrating on stones with grading done by GIA or AGS.
Any of the oft-mentioned vendors here will tell you FLAT out if a stone is eyeclean or not, and you can take that to the BANK. There is a *HUGE* price break between VS2 and SI1 with virtually *no* visual sacrifice.
In fact, I look for great deals on the clean SI2 stones! My stone is a 1.24, H, SI2......and it's completely eyeclean. I still can't find the inclusions even under magnification because they are white and wispy. SI2 is a *mammoth* savings if you find a clean one!
Melanie, I really agree with Mara that SI1 is the way to go to maximize your dollar and put yourself where you want to be in size/color/cut, etc.
With due respect......this is not advice I'd follow at ALL.----------------

Laugh!
Seriously, as Nicez says, diamond district shopping is a lot like shopping at Home Depot (or another warehouse store). If you know what you're doing and exactly what you need, you can find it at a good price. But if you're the average neophyte shopper, you're asking for trouble.
