Is it lost? (USPS package question)

I ordered a vintage gold chain and it was shipped via USPS. Tracking info said the estimated delivery date is Tuesday, however when I tracked it just now it shows delivered and signed for by me. Trouble is I have been out of town since 11:00am, 42 minutes before it was delivered.

I called my son to see if by chance he signed for it. He said he’s been home all day and no one came to the door and nothing was delivered. He even went to the mailbox and checked the porch in case it was left there. Nothing.

I went through all of our security cam footage of the front of the house and the front door and there was no activity around that time. There was also no footage for the entire day with any deliveries.

I am on my way home, but I’m wondering if anyone has any experience with a similar situation and what the next steps are to either find this necklace or get my money back without it hurting the vendor (as she didn’t do anything to cause this).

Thanks!

I have had things "signed for by me" that were tossed on my doorstep (FedEx!!). I have had things showing "delivered" online even though they were not yet delivered. In each case, I did get the item but it was a little disconcerting.

I’m hoping it shows up Tuesday (since Monday is a postal holiday). Just so weird!

I’ve been googling. (Rabbit hole anyone?) From what I am seeing, I may be out a vintage necklace and $375 because USPS only insures it to “delivery” and it says it was delivered and signed for by me (the name listed as addressee), even though I was an hour away and the USPS driver never came up to my door.

I’m trying not to be upset… but I am.

I hope it’s what happens to me quite a lot. The postal worker is at the end of their day so they sign for it but take it back to the post office to be delivered the next day. My postal worker said they do that so the bosses don’t get on their backs for not delivering it that day. They are extremely short staffed. He said if he had to deliver everything they wanted on that specific day he would be delivering during the middle of the night. I hope it turns up on Tuesday.

I hope this is the case. I was super excited to come home and see it when I saw it was supposedly here.

If you call the post office and they might be able to track where it was delivered or even if it was truly delivered. Many/most? Post offices now have a gps tracking device to be able to locate exactly where it is.

Oh man. Hopefully the carrier brought it back to the hub/office and it’s chilling there. I have had this happen before and had to retrieve it at the PO.

I’m actually in the middle of trying to sign for a delivery from UPS, god what a nightmare. It’s a Tiffany bangle from Fashionphile that shipped under the same tracking as another item from the same order that was already successfully delivered. I’ve been trying to have things shipped to my work lately but I dropped the ball on this one. UPS left a sticky on my door today at 2:25, WHILE I was home. He usually knocks realllllly loud, must have been a different driver bc I never heard a sound and was here then. I’m about to stop ordering online and start shopping at brick and mortars again!

I have had them put a small package behind a planter. If you have anything on the porch, did you look behind the item? Just a thought.

Hopefully it will be delivered on Tuesday.

Mystery solved! The vendor transposed two numbers in my address so it was delivered to a neighbor’s house. However, someone signed for it. (I have the proof of delivery that shows the signature.) So I have to go down and see if they will give it to me.

ETA: I got it!!!! (It’s the bottom chain.)

Oh no! Good luck with the neighbor!

Yay! I love it! Great for layering a ‘neck mess!’

Exactly! That’s why I was excited for it to be 20”. I have only a few necklaces besides this one, but almost all are 18” (with the exception of one 16”).

Very pretty @RetroQT ... Great stacking piece!

Glad it worked out - so stressful!!! Be sure to let the vendor know so they will triple check in the future.
This is why I cut and paste addresses when ppl give them to me for something I send.

Yes, I did and she said she almost always cuts and pastes too. But will definitely do that all the time now.

I’m so glad you got it! It looks so pretty with your other necklaces!

It's a gorgeous chain!
But I'm curious. Why did the neighbor sign for it when it had your name on the package?
Why did you have to reach out to get it back?

The neighbor didn’t sign for it. There was a handwritten note on the box that said Dolly, the postal worker, signed for it.

Wow
That's so wrong. What's the point of having the recipient sign for a package when the postal worker signs and it instead and leaves it unsecure in the wrong mailbox? Sheesh!

Right? Well, technically it was in the right mailbox (cuz vendor got my address wrong). But yes, the postal worker shouldn’t be signing for it!

The vendor put in the incorrect house number. But I was able to get it from the neighbor’s house this morning. ;-)

My usual driver will do that for me too. I really like her, but it does annoy me at times when it’s an expensive piece and it’s just left on my doorstep or mailbox.

Just FYI - you can sign up for USPS Informed Delivery. It's helpful because you see when things will be delivered. If something is supposedly shipped but doesn't show up in your Informed Delivery within a day or two, it likely was shipped to the wrong address or wasn't shipped. That's how I realized a package went to my old address one time.
