...or do you ever think "no, maybe I shouldn't post this on SMTB because it's not quite big enough / valuable enough to appeal to the PS audience"?
SMTBoobs or SMTBlings?... ..IMO...no matter the size you should be proud,so post em pics.. :naughty:

Not so much in SMTB, but I have a few pairs of early Georgian black dot Strass earrings, and some early Victorian paste and rose cut diamond earrings that I love but have not yet posted pics of in the antique/vintage section because I'm not sure if anyone would really like them. Also some 18th century Strass set in silver and gold shoe buckles and varying period Cut Steel buckles that I just bought that I'm quite smitten with but others might consider just ugly
I think Circe once said she was interested in Paste in another topic, but I could be wrong... I just don't know if anyone else really appreciates this kind of thing?

I got to the bottom of your first paragraph and was about to post "WANT!" and then I saw that my obsession had not gone unobserved, lol. But, yeah, I say post 'em! I just got a pair of gorgeous Deco dress clips with blue cab centers that verge on sugarloaf, and I'm waiting for a pair of unfoiled Old Mine earrings to arrive. Was just thinking I should start a "SMTS - Show Me the Strass!" thread ....

As for the main question ... generally, I think PS is pretty all-inclusive. Yeah, some threads get more of a reaction, but I don't think it's entirely because we're a bunch of size queens: I mean, I remember somebody posting an 8 carat ring a while ago and getting almost no responses. Compare that to, say, Haven's thread, or Dreamers - featuring The Prettiest OMC in the World and a TDF setting combo, and a gorgeously faceted pair of OECs, respectively.

So I think there's an intangible relationship between the size/quality/originality - call it the Covetousness Factor - and the popularity of the poster that you can sort of use to predict how much of a reaction somebody is going to get (not to mention it being raised by a factor if it's a piece PS has contributed to significantly). But that doesn't mean the other pretties go unappreciated - I love combing through the Eye Candy thread and seeing the glorious jumble! Makes me feel nice that my pieces, big and small, cut and uncut, etc., etc. are all in there too ....

I think there are a few factors that play into why certain threads get more attention than others- like originality of the piece, how well known the PSer is, if it was a piece that was searched for and designed here on RockyTalky making it seething everyone feels pry if, etc. I don't think that cost and size are the only factors :)

Oh heck no, I don't ever think that. I don't post on SMTB to get responses. I post because this is an educational site with 1000s of lurkers, most of whom ARE in the hunt for "smaller" stones and I want to contribute information for them to look at. That's why I always post detailed reviews and info. I'm not posting for seasoned PSers who just like looking at pics (not that it's a bad thing to only want that!), I'm posting for the person who might want to do a project similar to mine in the future!

I'm doing research on three stones right now, and I'm glad it's never been limited to "Giant three stone honkers."

Honestly, I've never thought that. I still have a pair of studs floating around here that I haven't posted pictures of, but that's more because I don't have a camera that has both a good macro setting and a charged battery, haha. I can't wait to post them, even though they're nothing special in the way of PS studs (.37ctw OECs in a 3 prong martini setting), they make me happy and PS was instrumental in getting me to buy and set the stones, so I (eventually) want to share!

Circe, my kindred Strass lover!
Do you have pictures of the clips? They sound divine.
Unfoiled Old Mine pastes *swoon* - do you have pics of them? I just got a pair too, I can't wait to see yours, here's mine:

I need to take my own pics, they are so much better in person, much clearer and brighter, dancing disco balls!
I was devastated when I didn't win the initial auction, but the winner never paid so the seller gave me, as the next highest bidder; the option to buy them at my last bid price, I was THRILLED!

I wanted these but I missed them, I felt bad splurging on another pair so soon, so I let them pass by, regretting it now, good ones are so rare to find these days ;(

Look forward to seeing yours, Circe, I'll take some pics of mine when I get my hands on a decent camera...I'll shoot for sometime this month.

I have not felt that way and I think that is obvious is anyone wants to comb my 10 billion threads and see I have a thread on every single item of jewelry I have ever owned ranging accross a wide range of sizes and dollar values.

For me its all about he photography. I love threads with great pictures. Often those are the longest.

Nice to see my pretties called out, thanks Circe.

I think you cannot ignore the trend factor. People really have been bananas over my OECs, which are both under one carat, much more than other diamonds I have owned it seems (I don't mean just thread length, though, my longest thread was on my former RB). But those are hot cuts right now and they also look great in pictures.
