ok, there''s my question. more specifically, for my case, i''m still 13+ months out. i know the wedding will happen in late sept/oct. i know the church that we''re getting married in. i do not have a reception site down, but have a few ideas. should i be trying on dresses already? i''ve found a few online that i love and really want to see if i still love them on. but i''m worried i''m rushing this dress thing. yay or nay for trying on dresses when you have over a year till your wedding?

sure why not, its fun and who knows how much it will end up costing, so you have a better idea of how much is needed for the dress, and also what you like or dislike. I''ve liked some dresses online and in person, ehhh not so much and vice versa.

i bought my dress 17 months before my wedding. I found one that I absolutely loved and just ordered it...its huge on me, but thats a different story. Its never too early to shop for dresses!

I think it CAN be too early to try on dresses. My friend went dress shopping 26 months before her wedding, and purchased 22 months before her wedding. I was with her when she bought the dress, and while I think she liked it, I also think she made an impulse buy because the dress was on sale and her mom was in town, so she just got emotional and purchased. I''m pretty sure she regrets purchasing the dress, although she wouldn''t admit it.

However, I don''t think it''s too early for YOU to try on dresses. I started trying on dresses at 17 months out, and I purchased at 15 months out.

My advice for dress shopping this early is to never buy a dress the first time you try it on. Take pictures of yourself in the dresses that you love, and if you''re thinking of purchasing one, look around on the internet to make sure you''re getting a good deal. Also, make sure you revisit the pictures of yourself in the dress. If, after all that, you still love it and want to buy it, go back and order it. Don''t buy something just because its on sale or because the sales girl is pressuring you, or your mom is crying, or because it makes you feel thin. Always go home and think about it first.

Best of luck! Dress shopping is an absolute blast! Please come back and post pictures for us.

I purchased my dress about 13 months before my wedding and I''m really happy that I did. My gown came in a few weeks ago with a manufacturing error too big to be fixed by a seamstress. The gown is being made again and will be in before the new year. If I had ordered six months out, I would have never had time to have my gown fixed. So, I say, it''s never too early to shop!

13 months is definitely not too early. Just as long as you dont keep looking after you''ve bought your dress! It''s great to have a head start, and it can take up to 3 months to find ''the'' dress. Have fun shopping!

I bought my dress at 13 months out.

Not too early at all! Especially if you want to shop around for a bit!

Most places recommend buying at least 8 months in advance. It definitely can''t hurt to purchase now, so of course it''s not a bad idea to begin shopping.

This way it can be stress free and you''ll have plenty of time!

I got mine very early. It was nice to have that decision made, and it was the part of wedding planning I most looked forward to. Besides, this way if it takes you a long time to find what you want, you won''t be rushed!

Definitely not too early. I started shopping 16 months out, and bought 14 months out. Trying on dresses is a lot of fun, but it can also be stressful, so you may need a lot of time to look and decide.

Try them sure, but don''t be sucked in with sales and samples. I would personally wait to order my dress. I ordered 10 months out (it was originally 8 months out, but we had to postpone our wedding just after I purchased it).

They only started making the dress 12 weeks out from my wedding to allow for my recent weight loss.

Nope, and when you do go, enjoy yourself!!!!

It really is fun!

thanks to everyone...guess i might slip in the bridal store to try on this weekend. i called a bridal store in my home town (i''ll be visiting for the long weekend) and they have the dress i found online that''s kind of my front runner right now & accept walk-ins. she said, "oh yeah, we have that dress, it''s in our display window"!!!) so, even if i don''t get up the nerves to go in & try it on...i definitely be doing a drive by

mrowmrowsmom, you gave some great advice, i''ll def keep that in mind & actually usually do that exact thing for any major purchase. i''m the exact opposite of an impulse shopper. everyone else, thanks for the go-ahead! i might be back with some pics monday or tuesday!!!

I dont think that''s too early! We have had a long engagement (19 months) and I started looking right away because I wanted to get an idea of what looked best and what I liked. I ordered the dress at 13 months to go, and it came in at 10 months to go. Just don''t look at dresses after you''ve ordered it! Otherwise, it''s nice to be able to check that off your list! Best of luck and have fun!

i too ordered mine at 13 months out :) now im 2 months out and have a 2nd fitting in 2 days, so excited!

Depends on how fickle you are, and how much self-control you have!

I''m the sort of person who changes my mind constantly. So I''d never buy a dress further out than I needed to, because I know I''d want something different 6 months later. I also lack the self-control to try on a dress and not get sucked into buying something, especially if it were on sale...

But if you''re ok on these two counts, then go ahead and have lots of fun!

no no you''re fine! as long as you agree to bring back pictures!!!

I bought my dress almost two and a half years before my wedding, I still have a year and a bit to go... but I still love it as much as the moment I first put it on. So no... I don''t think it''s too early for you to be trying on dresses

I bought mine 11 months before the wedding :) I''ve heard as long as you don''t plan on losing a crap load of weight then it''s alright to be pretty early if you''d like. If you do plan on losing a bunch of weight keep in mind you will have to pay a ton in alterations! Also, because you have time... make sure you find "the one." A lot of women end up becoming 2 and 3 dress brides because they have so much time to think about their dresses and whether or not they made the right choice. Have fun this weekend!

No way! go for it!!
